Director of Communications at Federation of Metropolitan Toronto Tenants' Associations (FMTA) – Toronto, Ontario Job Details Position: Director of Communications Organization: Federation of Metropolitan Toronto Tenants' Associations (FMTA) Location: Toronto, Ontario Employment type: Temporary, Full‑Time, 18‑month contract with possibility of extension (Parental Leave) Hours: 35 hours per week Start date: December 8, 2025 Salary: $62,700 per year Reports to: FMTA Executive Director Benefits Vacation entitlement: 3 weeks per year (first three years); 4 weeks (fourth‑sixth years); 5 weeks (seventh‑sixth years); 6 weeks (tenth and beyond). Pro‑rated for part‑time. Sick days: 24 days per year (full‑time); pro‑rated for part‑time. Position Summary Provides strategic, creative and dynamic communications to FMTA, implementing and overseeing the communications plan, promotion, and the hotline program. Responsibilities Develop and disseminate all FMTA communications (website, publications, newsletter, reports, email, social media, graphics, education materials). Implement and oversee the communications plan. Maintain membership files and database; coordinate processing of members via CRM. Implement Toronto Purchase of Service Agreement for the FMTA Hotline/Info Hub Service; lead training and supervision of hotline staff. Ensure effective linkages between hotline team and other FMTA programs; represent FMTA on infohub services in the community. Oversee advertising of infohub services and troubleshoot equipment issues. Maintain hotline VOIP system, social media live chat accounts, hotline database system and CRM. Report to Executive Director on program, personnel, financial and legal issues. Convenient leadership in Access, Safety & Equity policies and procedures. Supervise development and administration of hotline infohub budgets; prepare regular financial reports. Lead personnel policies and procedures for the hotline/infohub: recruitment, hiring, orientation, compensation, training, supervision, evaluation, discipline and termination within an employment equity framework. Handle written hotline inquiries (email, social media, live chat) as needed. Qualifications Ability to work within FMTA vision. Active listening and empathy. Staff management skills. Experience in a unionized environment. Communications experience, including creating graphics, media development and web‑based content. Experience with direct front line service. Understanding of client services. Experience in a multi‑work‑unit environment.
