We continue to take steps to challenge ourselves to act with courage and integrity, and to create an environment where people can be their true selves.These values are not just words on a page, they guide our actions and decisions every day and have come to define our team culture.As a Lab Technical Assistant, you will be responsible for the preparation, setup, and limited test processing of specimens in the laboratory, and help deliver better health outcomes for patients through the delivery of fast and accurate test results.Status: Casual (0 - 37.5 hours per week)Shift: Casual full time availability Mon - Fri evenings and graveyard required.Number of positions: 1Start Date: ASAP Union: This is part of the BCGEU collective agreement.This vacancy is for an existing position.Your responsibilities will include:Receive, accession, sort and prepare specimens for testingPerform manual and automated testing procedures under the guidance of a Medical Laboratory TechnologistRespond to phone inquiries from LifeLabs employees and clients such as hospitals, clinics and physiciansClean, maintain, and operate instruments and other equipmentParticipate in problem solving in work organization and workflow to drive continuous improvementAlways ensuring test quality and personal safetyWhat you will bring to the role:High School diploma with courses in post-secondary science or medical terminologyPrevious laboratory experience an assetAbility to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment while being detail oriented and hands onExcellent communication skills to enable you to relate with a wide variety of peopleProblem solving skills, including the ability to identify and follow-up on issuesAbility to maintain the strictest standards of safety, patient privacy and confidentialityLifeLabs’ compensation programs are commensurate based on the role, skill, effort, responsibility and working conditions, irrespective of gender, race, ethnicity, beliefs, age or any other personal characteristics.
