Vice President, Finance - Head of Function

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a VP, Finance (Head of Function) to head up all accounting and finance activities, and drive process / system improvements as the firm continues to scale. The VP will ensure alignment in financial practices across the business and advise the Executive team on critical decisions for the firm and its shareholders. This position reports to the CEO and will lead a growing team of 10+ professionals.

The Primary Focus of the VP Finance is to:

  • Lead and oversee the finance and accounting function for the firm.
  • Drive the firm's strategic vision, governance, and structure.
  • Ensure robust operational systems and processes with clear controls and oversight.
  • Enhance the financial knowledge of senior leaders and the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct all aspects of finance and accounting.
  • Provide strategic financial advice to enhance performance and business opportunities.
  • Provide finance support to the organization in terms of potential future investments and M&A activity.
  • Manage financial forecasting, analysis, budgets, consolidation, and reporting.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive reporting system to translate data into business insights.
  • Identify key performance drivers and conduct risk assessments.
  • Produce consolidated key KPI metrics.
  • Lead financial management in cash flow, risk, and taxation.
  • Liaise with banks, government, auditors, and lawyers on financial matters.
  • Manage the company's shareholder program.
  • Execute corporate structuring, consolidation, integration, and reorganization.
  • Build and develop high-functioning teams for business continuity and succession.

Qualification Requirements:

  • 10-15+ years of proven financial analysis and accounting experience ideally at an experienced Director or early-career VP, Finance level.
  • Entrepreneurial minded with a strong drive to build and enhance financial operations, and the ability to identify barriers and drive change.
  • Engineering, professional services, construction, a high growth B2B, or related industry experience is an asset.
  • Solid understanding of general financial analysis concepts like margin analysis, ROIC, revenue recognition, and project evaluation.
  • Advanced technical, analytical, and systems skills; proficient in Microsoft Office and financial modeling.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Broad business perspectives to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Experience in restructuring, reorganizing, and centralizing functions.
  • Proven success in leading finance software initiatives, preferably during transformation periods, with ERP system implementation experience.
  • High resilience in dealing with complex issues.
  • Experience engaging with senior management teams in large/national organizations.

Education

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation or equivalent (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA).
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, business, economics, or related fields.
