Role & Facility Information The West Coast General Hospital (WCGH) is seeking physicians to join our ‘Community Hospital Inpatient Physician’ (CHIP) team. Full‑time or part‑time positions are available. WCGH fosters a collaborative team‑based environment with a focus on maximizing patient safety, championing culturally safe patient care and practicing trauma‑informed care. CHIP team members will act as MRP care for unattached & unassigned inpatients to the Family Practice service at WCGH, including rounding, arranging transfers, discharge planning and responding to urgent calls. Attendance at daily structured team reports, support of allied teams, and patient hand‑over at discharge are required. Physicians also provide consult services to on‑site ambulatory clinics, including Medical Day care, and offer virtual outreach consults to rural health sites and Indigenous communities. Coverage: daily MRP services 0700–2200, 52 weeks a year, including statutory holidays. Evening physician focuses on new admissions from ED, rounding, stabilization, urgent non‑code calls. Weekdays, 1700–2200, covers inpatients with FPs as MRP. Response to NH calls when primary care physician unavailable. Responsibilities Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to patients of all ages. Conduct patient rounds and end‑of‑day stabilization. Participate in daily team reports and interdisciplinary hand‑overs. Respond to urgent and non‑code calls for admitted patients. Provide consult services to ambulatory clinics and virtual outreach to rural sites. Coordinate service transfers, inter‑facility repatriations, and discharge planning. Additional Opportunities (subject to training and privileging) First call for After‑hours OR assistance. MAID physician services. NTP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) services. Compensation & Benefits Clinical Service Contract with estimated remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA). Potential additional remuneration for part‑time positions includes: Recruitment Incentive: up to $10,000 Fee Premium: 8.40% Annual Flat Fee: $9,669.60 Rural CME: starting at $2,200/annum in years 3 & 4, increasing to $4,400/annum after 4 years. Retention Premium: 7.98% and Retention Flat Fee: $9,186 Relocation Funding: up to $15,000. Location Port Alberni, a coastal city with a population of 18,000, offers a strong community spirit, affordable housing, and access to outdoor recreation, including Pacific Rim, surfing, skiing, and close proximity to Nanaimo, Vancouver, and Victoria.
