Assigned to all phases of new product development, from design concepts through launch to market. This position works closely with the Director of Engineering and has the following areas of responsibility:

  • All aspects of engineering development of new and maintenance of existing products, including ECN and Cost reduction exercises.
  • Oversees and mentors Associate Engineers and Drafters, checks and approves engineering part drawings and assembly instructions.
  • Understanding the whole value chain where the product is placed and making product decisions appropriate to it in terms of specifications, cost and durability.

Key high-level deliverables will include:

Works closely with the Designer, Product and Project Managers, Engineering, Quality, Data Management, Manufacturing and Purchasing.

  • Design and development of RTA wood products from defined concepts and specifications, including engineering and costing utilizing existing engineering methods where appropriate.
  • Utilize Autodesk Inventor on a daily basis to create and modify parts, drawings, assemblies, presentations, and assembly instructions for assigned products.
  • Create product cost estimates for new and existing products as needed.
  • Execution of drawing, assembly instruction, and new product checks including fit and function prior to production start.
  • Working with and understanding the needs of Manufacturing, Packaging, Test and Quality to ensure a smooth product launch across the development.
  • Embrace innovative designs and assembly methods to support Easy, Fast, Affordable product vision.
  • Develop, maintain, and follow standard operating procedures for product engineering and development.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday flexible 8 hours between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Travel:

  • Travel to suppliers in the US and China possible.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office environment.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Required to understand and communicate in English.
  • Required to understand and communicate in English.
  • Engineering degree with at least 5 years experience (RTA and Systems furniture preferred).
  • Knowledge of industry standard test procedures.
  • Knowledge of furniture manufacturing techniques and processes
  • Ability to manage own time effectively, subject to the needs of the business and defined goals and timelines.
  • Collaborative, team centered approach working cross functionally with Design, Test, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing and Quality.
  • Motivated self-starter, able to work on own with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
