Software Engineering Manager (Backend SaaS)Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. The company is founder‑led, profitable, and growing with 1200+ colleagues in 75+ countries and a very small number of office‑based roles.We are hiring an engineering manager to lead the reboot of our Landscape systems management solution for Ubuntu. Landscape is a critical SaaS and on‑prem solution that helps enterprises manage large Ubuntu estates, applying policy and monitoring compliance across thousands of deployments.Key ResponsibilitiesBuild and lead a team of engineers in your regionDevelop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands‑on career developmentDemonstrate sound engineering principles and directly contribute toward your team’s goalsSet and manage expectations with other engineering teams, management, and external stakeholdersLead modern, agile software development practicesEnsure a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company valuesBe an active part of the leadership team and collaborate with other leaders in the organizationBuild automated, highly reliable image delivery, testing and publication pipelinesEngage with many other teams at Canonical as well as the open source community and commercial partnersWork from home with global travel 4‑6 weeks per year for internal and external eventsValued Skills And ExperienceTrack record of mentoring, developing, and growing peopleDeep knowledge and passion for software developmentFocus on success and delivery of timely, high‑quality softwareExperience and commitment to agile development methodologiesBachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degreeSoftware development experience in Python or GolangEffective written and verbal communication skillsPractical experience with Linux system administrationWhat We OfferDistributed work environment with twice‑yearly team sprints in personPersonal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per yearAnnual compensation reviewRecognition rewardsAnnual holiday leaveMaternity and paternity leaveTeam Member Assistance Program & Wellness PlatformOpportunity to travel to new locations to meet colleaguesPriority Pass and travel upgrades for long‑haul company eventsCanonical is an equal opportunity employer.
