Sr. Exploration Geologist (Rackla) - FIFO from Western Canada Join to apply for the Sr. Exploration Geologist (Rackla) - FIFO from Western Canada role at Hecla Mining Company. Summary The Sr. Exploration Geologist (Rackla) position is an opportunity to take on a key leadership role within the Exploration team tasked with advancing high-quality gold, silver, and base metals targets across the highly prospective Rackla land package in central Yukon. Reporting to the Exploration Manager, you will be responsible for safely overseeing all aspects of a remote, helicopter-supported exploration program, applying strong geological expertise to identify and test new targets in support of Hecla’s long‑term objectives. About Us The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory, is one of the highest‑grade silver districts in the world, situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na‑Cho Nyak Dun. Keno Hill comprises 242 square kilometres with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past‑producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7‑3.1 million ounces of silver in 2025 as the mine ramps up production. The Rackla property sits roughly 30 miles to the northeast of Hecla Keno Hill’s mine, consisting of 8,771 claims covering over 650 sq miles, and can only be accessed by air. It represents a large, underexplored land package with demonstrated gold, silver and base metal mineralization. Key Responsibilities Ensure exploration team members are working safely and comply with requirements to prevent incidents and injuries: including hazard identification and reporting; use and maintenance of PPE; that personnel are appropriately trained. Amend or implement new safety measures as necessary. Conduct detailed review of the existing geological data and interpretations and develop a comprehensive knowledge of the property geology and exploration history. Examine the mineral potential of the claim area and generate an initial property‑wide target evaluation and ranking. Review the geologic and resource models (Leapfrog) to assess the veracity of geologic interpretation and the potential for resource expansion at existing advanced‑stage prospects. Plan and execute helicopter‑supported, remote‑camp field and drill programs with an initial focus on mapping, prospecting and the generation of drill‑ready targets. Coordinate the collection, compilation, management, and interpretation of geological information from field geology programs including mapping, prospecting, geophysics, and drilling. Collaborate with the wider Yukon exploration team and resource geology team from initial mineral potential assessment to resource generation and expansion including QA/QC implementation and reporting. Manage contractors and staff to safely achieve all project objectives and provide leadership, mentoring and training to personnel. Communicate effectively with management and stakeholders. Maintain formal quarterly progress reporting, attend weekly update meetings and ensure that safety, environmental and other projects issues are communicated quickly and clearly. Generate budgets and schedules for exploration programs. Track expenditure and progress to ensure programs are completed on time and within budget. Other duties may be assigned. Promote a strong environmental culture, teaching environmentally friendly values and work practices. Foster a strong safety culture, promoting and exemplifying safe work practices throughout the organization. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in geology with post‑graduate degree desirable. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience that includes helicopter‑supported, remote camp projects. Experience supervising geological field and drilling campaigns and managing staff and contractors. Advanced 3D software experience (preferentially Leapfrog), GIS and Microsoft Office. Experience in developing geological models, with targeting and exploration experience. Excellent understanding of geological settings, ore‑forming processes, geochemistry and structural geology. Ability to think about geologic processes across time and at different scales. Strong communication skills with the ability to convey ideas and information professionally in writing and verbally. Experience developing budgets, tracking and reporting expenditures. Self‑motivated, organized and possesses leadership abilities. Commitment to safety, environment, and community.
