About The Role Do you have passion working with a diverse, collaborative team to lead decarbonization and the advancement of Renewable Energy in Power Grids? Are you excited working on electric grid transmission planning, generation, big load interconnections such as data centers? DNV Energy Systems’ group has an exciting opportunity for a Power System Study Engineer in its Renewables & Power Grids service area. Our team provides creative, cost‑effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The engineer must demonstrate vision, drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth of the Power Systems Advisory business in North America. What You’ll Do Perform electrical system impact studies such as steady‑state, dynamic and transient stability analyses for generation and big load interconnections in PSS/E; Perform short‑circuit studies in ASPEN; Conduct voltage ride‑through tests, dynamic model quality tests, model benchmarking; Perform transmission planning and compliance assessments for bulk electric power system in PSS/E; Produce and/or review technical reports and presentations for external customers; Ensure timely completion of assigned projects while meeting project quality and budget; Develop or modify automation scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed and accuracy of technical simulations; Stay up‑to‑date with relevant NERC, ISO/RTO planning procedures, policy changes and developments; Contribute to the team’s research and innovation activities in developing new techniques and/or analytical tools to further performance; Build customer relationships, provide technical advisory support for generation and big load interconnections connected to transmission systems. About You What is Required Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with emphasis on electric power systems; Minimum 2+ years of direct working experience including transmission planning, expansion, generation and/or large load interconnection related analyses, and NERC reliability standards such as TPL/MOD/CIP; Minimum 2+ years of hands‑on experience with power‑system tools such as PSS/E; In‑depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy; Strong organizational, interpersonal (written & verbal) skills, problem‑solving and analytical skills; Ability to work in a dynamic team environment; Strong written and verbal English communication skills; required to draft and review internal documents in English across North America; Pre‑employment background screening will be conducted. What Is Preferred Knowledge of ERCOT electricity market planning & interconnection practices; Hands‑on experience with one or more power‑system analysis software packages including ASPEN, TARA; Active PE license; Graduate‑level degree with emphasis on electric power systems; Experience with automation scripts such as Python; Knowledge of other electricity markets (e.g., PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE) planning & interconnection practices.
