Liferaft is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to provide temporary coverage during a parental leave period. This role plays a vital part in overseeing and managing the company’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial insight. Reporting to the CFO, the Financial Controller will maintain the integrity of Liferaft’s financial data, support effective decision-making, and drive continuous improvement across key accounting and reporting processes. This is a full-time employee maternity leave backfill role (approximately 14 months) with potential to transition into a permanent position, offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high-growth SaaS company while collaborating with a dynamic and cross‑functional team. With a preference for candidates to be located in Halifax, we are also open to top qualified, remote candidates located in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes. What you do as the Financial Controller at Liferaft Oversee all accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and Payroll. Develop and maintain internal controls to ensure the accuracy of financial reporting and compliance with regulations. Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP/ASPE standards. Lead the monthly reporting process, providing variance analysis and insights to management. Support treasury management to optimize the company’s financial health. Review all domestic and international payroll pay runs for accuracy and approval. Manage the year‑end audit process and liaise with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Drive process improvements to increase efficiency within the finance function. Supervise and mentor junior member(s) of the Finance team, when applicable. Ensure compliance with all tax filings, financial laws, and regulatory requirements. Assist in financial planning for new initiatives, investments, and projects. What You Need to Get the Job Done You have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required. You bring 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, including at least 3 years in a leadership role. You are an excellent communicator and leader who can build strong relationships across teams. You demonstrate strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal control systems. You are proficient with accounting software and have advanced Microsoft Excel skills. You have exceptional analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail. You thrive under pressure, meeting tight deadlines while maintaining high‑quality work. You’re productive, driven, and organized. You learn quickly, and you question the status quo to encourage improvement. You have a great sense of humor. Preferred Qualifications: You have experience in SaaS & SaaS‑specific reporting and metrics. You excel at driving continuous process improvements and technology efficiencies, and have experience owning financial reporting processes.
