This is a rare opportunity for an experienced CFO to work exclusively with NPOs, partner closely with executive directors and boards, lead strategic finance initiatives, and mentor the next generation of finance professionals, all within a modern, cloud-first environment.

About the RoleAs a CFO in Enkel’s Not-for-Profit Practice, you will act as the senior financial leader for a portfolio of not-for-profit clients. You will work closely with executive directors, senior leadership teams, and boards to provide strategic financial guidance, oversight, and decision support.
This role goes beyond compliance. You will lead budgeting and forecasting processes, support funder and grant reporting, advise on accounting standards for NPOs, and help organizations strengthen governance and financial sustainability. You will also play a critical internal leadership role by mentoring Controllers and junior team members, setting best practices, and helping scale our NPO offering as we add 100 new organizations to the practice. Key ResponsibilitiesClient Leadership and Strategic FinanceAct as the senior finance lead for a portfolio of not-for-profit clients, building trusted relationships with executive directors, senior leaders, and boardsLead board-level and executive-level financial discussions, translating complex financial information into clear, actionable insightsSupport clients with annual budgeting, multi-year forecasting, cash flow planning, and scenario analysisAdvise on funder, grant, and restricted funding reporting requirements, including variance analysis and compliance supportProvide strategic guidance on financial sustainability, governance, and financial risk managementSupport clients through audits and year-end processes, including liaison with external auditors and advisorsAccounting Standards, Compliance, and Technical OversightEnsure accurate and compliant financial reporting under ASNPOLead complex accounting discussions related to restricted contributions, deferred revenue, fund accounting, and multi-entity structuresProvide expert guidance on sales tax compliance for not-for-profit organizationsReview and oversee financial statements and reporting prepared by Controllers and accounting teamsProvide technical leadership and practical solutions tailored to the not-for-profit sectorTechnology and Process ImprovementChampion cloud-based accounting tools, including QuickBooks Online (QBO), and related ecosystem appsIdentify opportunities to improve reporting, automation, and financial workflows for clientsOversee the development of dashboards and reporting frameworks to support funders, boards, and management teamsTeam Leadership and MentorshipMentor and develop Controllers and junior finance team members, supporting their technical and professional growthReview work, provide coaching, and help build strong client-facing skills across the teamContribute to internal training, best practices, and the continued development of Enkel’s not-for-profit CFO and controllership offeringsPlay an active role in scaling the NPO practice as we add 100 new organizations this yearWhat You Bring15 or more years of progressive accounting and finance experienceCPA designation or equivalent recognized accounting designationDeep expertise in Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO)Experience working in both public accounting and within the accounting or finance department of a not-for-profit organizationStrong experience supporting boards, executive teams, and fundersProven expertise in sales tax compliance for not-for-profit organizations, including registrations, filings, and rebate recoveryDemonstrated ability to lead budgeting, forecasting, and strategic finance initiativesAdvanced working knowledge of QuickBooks Online (QBO) and cloud accounting ecosystemsA passion for technology-enabled finance and modern service deliveryProven ability to mentor and develop junior team membersExcellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly and confidentlyCompensation and Work EnvironmentHybrid role within the Greater Vancouver Area: $130,000 to $180,000 with three days working in our office in Vancouver, BC and two days working remotelyCandidates must be located in Canada and eligible to work in CanadaWhy Join EnkelEnkel is scaling quickly, and our not-for-profit practice is a core strategic priority.
