Applicants are required to have a demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to this care philosophy.Reporting to the Manager of Forensic Mental Health, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing quality nursing care to complex patient populations whose outcomes are not predictable on the Adult, Forensic and Child & Adolescent Mental Health units. As part of inter‑professional health care teams, the Mental Health Nursing Resource Team (MHNRT) Registered Nurse (RN) will practice within the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the philosophy of patient and family centered care, as well as the mission, vision, values and policies of Thunder Bay.QualificationsCurrent unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or the ability to become licensed with the College of Nurses of Ontario.Current certification in BCLS.Recent experience in Mental Health nursing in an acute care setting.Knowledge of current legislation related to the Criminal Code of Canada Part XX.1 ‑ Mental Disorder, the Mental Health Act, and the Health Care Consent Act.Ability to use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in conjunction with her/his basic and ongoing knowledge to arrive at individualized care planning and delivery.Collaborates and provides consult to Registered Practice Nurse’s (RPN) when patients assigned to the RPN become unstable or have outcomes that are not as expected.Identify and recognize abnormal or unexpected patient responses and take appropriate action.Ability to simultaneously manage multiple nursing interventions.Strong interprofessional and communication skills.PreferredHave a certification, or recent continuing education in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing.Knowledge of the principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation or a similar recovery‑based model of care.Salary RangeSalary Range: $40.240 to 57.680Application DeadlineInterested applicants must submit a resume outlining relevant previous experience and training no later than 11:59p.m. on Tuesday, 20 January, 2026.We are committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible environment supporting diversity in our work environment to provide quality care where all feel valued, respected, and supported.
