Our operations team is expanding and looking to add a Stamping Technologist. We are looking for a dynamic and driven candidate who is interested in joining a fast-growing global company in the automotive sector.

The Stamping Technologist will be responsible for developing and optimizing stamping processes for automotive body-structure components and steel battery enclosure parts. Support new-project feasibility reviews, process planning, die design reviews, tryouts, commissioning, production launches, and ramp-up.

  • Establish stamping process parameters, standard operating procedures, inspection requirements, and technical documentation.
  • Analyze and resolve stamping defects, including cracking, wrinkling, springback, splitting, scratching, dents, burrs, and dimensional deviations.
  • Work closely with Tooling, Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Product Engineering teams to resolve process and production issues.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement containment, corrective, and preventive actions using 5-Why, Fishbone, 8D, and other problem-solving tools.
  • Optimize press parameters, die conditions, lubrication, material flow, cycle time, scrap rate, and material utilization.
  • Monitor stamping process capability and production performance and implement continuous improvement actions.
  • Participate in product and engineering change reviews and coordinate the required process and tooling modifications.
  • Support equipment and die capability studies, trial production, dimensional validation, and customer sample submissions.
  • Prepare and maintain process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, work instructions, parameter sheets, and technical reports.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to stamping supervisors, technicians, die makers, and production operators.
  • Ensure compliance with company requirements and applicable occupational health and safety regulations in Ontario.
To be a qualified candidate, you must have the following:
  • College diploma or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Forming, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • At least three years of automotive stamping process or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of sheet-metal forming, stamping presses, progressive dies, transfer dies, or large stamping dies.
  • Experience troubleshooting common stamping defects and optimizing forming processes.
  • Ability to interpret product drawings, die drawings, GD&T requirements, material specifications, and dimensional reports.
  • Familiarity with high-strength steel and automotive body-structure manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, and 8D problem-solving.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, CATIA, NX, AutoForm, or other relevant engineering and forming-simulation software is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, hands-on problem-solving, project coordination, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Good English communication skills and the ability to prepare technical documents and reports.
  • Ability to support shifts, overtime, weekends, and travel when required during project launches.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
Key to being successful in this role:
  • Experience with an automotive Tier 1 supplier or large stamping manufacturer.
  • Experience with steel battery enclosures, automotive body structures, or structural safety components.
  • Experience with 1,500 MPa high-strength steel forming and springback control.
  • Knowledge of automated press lines, robotic material handling, and die-change systems.
  • Mandarin-English bilingual communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and tooling as required.
  • Ability to work around stamping presses, production machinery, noise, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and other tooling-related equipment.
  • Must be able to follow all required PPE and workplace safety requirements.
