Join us Overview The Government of Alberta is looking for an IT Procurement Specialist to lead high‑impact IT procurement projects achieving value to business partners, and help modernise how we source, manage, and execute contracts. This is your chance to be part of a forward‑thinking team that combines procurement expertise with emerging technologies to transform government services. Reporting to the Manager, IT Procurement, you will provide value to business partners through effective and auditable procurement outcomes while minimising organisational risk and aligning with the strategic objectives of the ministry and the GoA. In this role, you will develop and execute procurement tasks and contracts using diverse procurement methodologies, support and mentor IT Procurement Analysts and Officers, and engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. You will also contribute to initiatives promoting innovation, efficiency, and service excellence across the ministry. As part of the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to innovation and service excellence, this role will contribute to initiatives that promote the adoption and integration of emerging technologies including, but not limited to, automation and artificial intelligence (AI), to drive operational efficiency. Candidates should have an awareness of emerging technologies and the capacity to consider how automation and AI can be thoughtfully applied within their scope of work to enhance outcomes and support modernisation efforts. Responsibilities Oversee procurement and contract planning to ensure the highest procurement standards are maintained. Lead IT procurement activities and promote efficiency and best practices. Ensure all procurement and contract documentation meets GoA policy and reporting requirements. Maintain sound awareness of trade agreement obligations and identify potential non‑compliance. Mentor and coach IT Procurement Analysts and Officers as required. Future‑Focused Skills Matter In this role, staying ahead of emerging technologies is essential. Experience with AI tools, automation, or data‑driven procurement systems or a strong willingness to learn is highly valued. You will have the opportunity to explore how AI and digital solutions can enhance procurement workflows, improve decision‑making, and deliver greater value to business partners, supporting the GoA’s modernisation and innovation goals. Qualifications Requirements University graduation in a related field such as Business Administration, Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Public Administration. 4 years of progressively responsible related experience in procurement, contract, and supplier/vendor management. Experience in strategy and policy planning, research, and development. Equivalencies 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. Assets A degree or diploma in procurement, contract management or supply chain management. Experience and/or solid understanding of Canadian Government procurement policies, legislation, and an understanding of its application. Experience in consultation and negotiation. Solid understanding of IT operations, project integration, ministry support, application support, supplier management and their dependencies. Experience in project management methodologies. Experience in Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) systems and processes. Experience in reporting practices and methodologies. Experience with information management and best practices. Knowledge of IT concepts, ITIL, COBIT, and Agile. Experience in mentorship and coaching. In‑depth knowledge of supplier and contract management. Adaptable, forward‑thinker with an eagerness to learn and leverage Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies to drive operational efficiency.
