About the Role Reporting to the Logistics and Supply Chain Supervisor, the Purchasing Specialist (Indirect Materials) supports Canada Royal Milk’s operations by procuring indirect materials and services, including MRO items, spare parts, consumables, and contracted services. The role is responsible for supplier sourcing and management, contract negotiation, purchase order execution, and cost control, ensuring timely availability of materials and services. All procurement activities must comply with Canada Royal Milk’s quality, food safety, traceability, and procurement standards. The Purchasing Specialist works closely with cross-functional teams such as Maintenance, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Production, and Supply Chain, and liaises as required with Feihe’s purchasing team in Beijing to support operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives. Job Requirements Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Certified Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) designation is considered an asset. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: 2–3 years of purchasing experience, preferably in the food manufacturing industry. Familiarity with food safety standards such as HACCP and SQF is preferred. Knowledge of import/export regulations and logistics is an asset. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work well under pressure in a deadline-driven environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of Mandarin is an asset; however, it is not mandatory. Key Duties and Responsibilities Procure MRO items, spare parts, consumables, and services required for plant operations, maintenance, and administrative functions. Manage the end-to-end procurement cycle for indirect categories, from requisition to purchase order issuance and delivery follow-up. Manage and develop the vendor base for indirect procurement categories, ensuring reliability, quality, and cost competitiveness. Negotiate contracts and commercial terms with consumable and service providers to achieve cost savings and service efficiency. Analyze purchase orders, consumption trends, and spend data to identify cost-saving and optimization opportunities. Ensure timely availability of indirect materials and services to support uninterrupted maintenance, utilities, and administrative operations. Control procurement costs by monitoring pricing, usage, and supplier performance against agreed terms. Coordinate closely with maintenance, engineering, utilities, administration, and finance teams to understand requirements and priorities. Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, approval limits, and ethical standards. Maintain accurate procurement documentation, contracts, and records for audit and compliance purposes. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to cost reduction, supplier consolidation, and procurement process efficiency. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Working Conditions The standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Most of the work occurs during regular weekday office hours. However, as an international company with frequent interaction with head office, hours of work involved may vary to accommodate differences in time zones. Flexible hours are required and may include evening and week-end hours. This job operates in office and food manufacturing setting. Travel may be required within Canada.
