Join to apply for the Electrical Engineer II role at Merrick & Company We are seeking a full‑time Electrical Engineer for our Kanata office, supporting the Life Sciences (LS) business unit. The office specializes in designing facilities and related power systems for government and private clients. Work assignments include electrical design for power generation, facilities, renovations, research labs, multi‑purpose buildings, and electrical systems. An agreed‑upon hybrid schedule—working from both home and office—is available to employees in good standing. Job Description The position involves facility design, site power design, and power analysis/studies. Responsibilities include conceptual and detailed design of low‑voltage (1000 V and lower) power distribution, security and access control systems, power generation systems (backup and prime power), grounding and lightning protection systems, lighting systems, motor control systems, voice/data communication cabling, fire alarm, and security systems. The role also covers developing specifications, conducting field investigations, and providing construction support. Work is performed with minimal direction, exercising independent design judgment while collaborating with senior engineers. Knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD is highly desired. Required Experience 4 to 8 years of experience in Electrical Engineering design. Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license in Electrical Engineering is highly desired, or the ability to obtain a P.Eng licence within 2 years of hire. Accredited Electrical Engineering Bachelor’s degree. Experience with electrical calculation tools such as AGi32, Elum Tools, EasyPower, ETAP, or SKM Power Tools. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit drawing generation. Working knowledge of CAN/ULC, NBC, and IEEE Regulatory Codes. Facilities electrical design experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel and Word. Client projects require Canadian citizenship. Local candidates are preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation. Work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without distraction.
