Nurse Practitioner – Cardiac Locum – Residency Opportunity SalaryCAD $59.56 – $85.62 per hour Job Summary Bring your clinical expertise, dedication and passion for providing quality and compassionate care to a challenging and rewarding role as a Cardiac locum Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Acute care covering both Electrophysiology and Cardiac consult programs in the context of team‑based care – the first of its kind Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) provides expert care to the province’s most seriously ill or injured. RCH also provides a number of highly specialized acute care services such as tertiary trauma, cardiology, cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, neurosurgery and vascular surgery that often require the care of multiple medical specialists, multidisciplinary care teams and the use of specialized equipment and technology. We have an exciting opportunity for a 1.0 FTE Nurse Practitioner to join our Cardiac locum team at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, B.C. Given the specialized nature of this role, the Acute Care Cardiac locum NP model is a collaborative, co‑managed, team‑based approach to patient care, where the cardiologists remain MRP or consultant of the patients. As part of this rewarding role the NP works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a consultative capacity with a coordinated approach to ensure safe, quality, effective, and timely care for patients. The NP will work Monday to Friday (7.5 hours/day) excluding weekends and statutory holidays. Responsibilities Diagnoses and treats previously undiagnosed patients/clients/residents for undifferentiated diseases, disorders, and conditions within the NP scope of practice; writes orders for treatment and medications; provides first‑line care in emergencies. Monitors ongoing care, orders appropriate screening diagnostic investigations; interprets reports of investigations and analyzes information to monitor progress and plan treatment. Establishes priorities for management of health, diseases, disorders, and conditions; provides follow‑up treatment; communicates with patients/clients/residents and families about health findings, diagnoses and priorities, outcomes and prognoses; supports and counsels patients/clients/residents in their responses to diseases, disorders and conditions. Collaborates and consults with physicians or other health care and social service providers as appropriate to assess and diagnose patient/client/resident status. Develops and implements treatment plans. May admit and discharge patients/clients/residents to facilities according to organizational policies. Prescribes drugs within the statutory and regulatory standards, limits, and conditions for NP and within applicable employer policies and procedures. Assigns work to other nursing and health care personnel; evaluates work and provides education and supervision as necessary; hires staff, and evaluates staff performance. Participates in research contributing to improved patient/client/resident care and advances in nursing, health policy development and population health. Maintains population health focus by implementing screening and health promotion activities for populations at risk. Participates in interdisciplinary staff and nursing education through case presentations, mentoring, role modeling and facilitating the exchange of knowledge in the classroom, the clinical setting and the community; fosters health care partnerships. Develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health system practices. Performs other duties as required. Qualifications Education and ExperienceCurrent practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Recent relevant clinical nursing experience. Ability to identify and respond appropriately to legal and ethical issues that may arise in patient/resident/client care.
