Salary The salary range for this position is CAD $59.56 - $85.62 / hour Job Summary We have an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner to join our Cardiac Consult Services team at Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) in New Westminster, B.C. Given the specialized nature of this role, the Cardiac Consult NP (CC NP) model is a collaborative, co‑managed, team‑based approach to patient care, where the cardiologists remain MRP or consultant of the patients. As part of this rewarding role the NP works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a consultative capacity with a coordinated approach to ensure safe, quality, effective, and timely care for patients. The NP will work Monday to Friday (7.5 hours/day) excluding weekends and statutory holidays. RCH is conveniently located adjacent to the Sapperton SkyTrain station on the Expo Line, making it easily accessible by public transit for both patients and staff. RCH provides expert care to the province’s most seriously ill or injured. It also offers highly specialized acute care services such as tertiary trauma, cardiology, cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, neurosurgery and vascular surgery that often require the care of multiple medical specialists and multidisciplinary teams with advanced equipment and technology. Additional employee discounts and perks available. *Eligibility based on employment status Detailed Overview The Nurse Practitioner is responsible and accountable for the comprehensive assessment of patients, including diagnosing diseases, disorders, and conditions. The NP initiates treatment, including healthcare management, therapeutic interventions and prescribes medications in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards, limits, conditions, and employer policies and procedures. The NP provides professional guidance to other health professionals and practices autonomously and interdependently within an interdisciplinary healthcare team, making referrals to specialist physicians as appropriate. The position collaborates with patients and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that have implications for patients, families and communities; develops and implements population and evidence‑based strategies to improve health and participates in policy‑making activities that influence health services and practices. The position participates in peer review and self‑review to evaluate the outcome of services at the patient, community and population level. Responsibilities Diagnoses and treats previously undiagnosed patients for undifferentiated diseases, disorders, and conditions within scope; writes orders for treatment and medications; provides first‑line care in emergencies. Monitors ongoing care, orders appropriate screening diagnostics, interprets reports and analyzes information to monitor progress and plan treatment. Establishes priorities for management of health; provides follow‑up treatment; communicates with patients and families about findings, diagnoses, priorities, outcomes and prognoses; supports and counsels patients in their responses to disease. Collaborates and consults with physicians or other health or social service providers as appropriate to assess and diagnose patient status. Develops and implements treatment plans; may admit and discharge patients according to policy. Prescribes drugs within statutory and regulatory standards, limits and conditions for Nurse Practitioners and within applicable employer policies and procedures. Assigns work to other nursing and health personnel; evaluates work and provides education and supervision as necessary; hires staff and evaluates performance. Participates in research contributing to improved patient care and advances in nursing, health policy development and population health. Maintains population health focus by implementing screening and health promotion activities for at‑risk populations. Participates in interdisciplinary staff and nursing education through case presentations, mentoring, role modeling and facilitating knowledge exchange in the classroom, clinical setting and community; fosters healthcare partnerships. Develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures related to nursing, interdisciplinary care and health system practices. Performs other duties as required. Qualifications Education and Experience Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Recent relevant clinical nursing experience.
