High-quality education and healthcare, low crime rates, and a commitment to environmental sustainability make Port Hope an exceptional place to live and work, fostering both professional and personal growth.The Day Camp Inclusion Leader is responsible to assist in the delivery and supervision of recreation and Day Camp programs offered by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture; ensuring compliance with HIGH FIVE® standards, the Health and Safety Regulations; and Municipal Policies and Procedures.Benefits and PerksOptional OMERS Pension Plan from the date of hireWork-life Balance InitiativesWellness, Social and Staff Ambassador CommitteesEmployee and Family Assistance PlanPerks and Savings PartnershipsCompensation and Work Term$18.54 to $20.11 per hourJune to AugustQualificationsMinimal of 18 years of age requiredCurrently enrolled in or completed education in a related field, i.e. Social Services, Child and Youth Worker, Nursing, Personal Support Worker, Teacher or related experienceStandard First Aid, CPR “C” with AED or willing to obtain Experience working with children with disabilities and behaviour considerationsPrevious volunteer and/or previous experience in a camp or similar settingHIGH FIVE ®: Principles of Healthy Child Development or willing to obtainBehaviour Management Systems (BMS) training preferredValid and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector CheckAble to commit to the full term of employment and be available Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.mMandatory staff training will take place on evenings and weekends prior to the start of summer campResponsibilitiesIn cooperation with the Senior Team Leader, Recreation Coordinator and Supervisor Recreation & Culture provide input on development of, promotion and delivery of programs (relating to participants with disabilities and behaviour considerations)Prepare and implement staff training related to program adaptation, integration and behaviour management strategiesInteract with participants in a positive and professional manner in the delivery of the program; incorporate the principles of HIGH FIVE ® regarding healthy child development and be aware of and work with individuals with disabilities and behaviour considerations; research information on different disabilities to broaden understanding and provide applicable assistanceRole model enthusiasm and active supervision as well as creating an inclusive environment for all campers, staff and volunteersProvide feedback to camp staff and/or Recreation Coordinator regarding program and participant integrationMinimize inappropriate behaviour using learned techniques and acquired skills. Develop individualized tools and management strategies for identified program participants, involving consultation with parents/caregivers, community organizationsEvaluate and access the needs of participants based on written and verbal information provided to ensure the necessary program adaptations and modifications are implementedProvide assistance to and interact with participants ensuring safety, integration and participation of all childrenMay be required to physically assist with lifts, transfers, toileting, and other needs as requireProvide safe support behaviour strategies that may include physical interventions and containment as outlined in Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) trainingAbility to swim and assist campers in the water is requiredRespond to first aid situations and document incidentsComply with the Child Guidance and Child Abuse Policies as outlined at staff trainingAssist other staff leading programs and assist in the guidance and supervision provided to VolunteersAssist the Senior Team Leader and Recreation Coordinator with the evaluation of staff and volunteers providing ongoing coaching and mentorshipAct as the liaison between the parent, child, Summer Day Camp staff and the Recreation CoordinatorAdvise the Summer Day Camp Senior Team Leader and/or Recreation Coordinator of any problems related to equipment, programs or public inquiries and shall report any unacceptable behaviour to the Recreation Program CoordinatorResolve operational conflicts in a swift professional manner taking into consideration operations, procedures, customer service standards and consultation with the Summer Day Camp Senior Team Leader or Recreation CoordinatorAdhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate his/her understanding that his/her personal actions impact the public’s perception of the MunicipalityPerform other duties as assigned by the Recreation Program Coordinator, Supervisor Recreation and Culture or designateSubmit an ApplicationPlease submit your cover letter and resume online at www.porthope.ca/careerson or before Monday March 30, 2026.
