With that goal in mind, it all starts with you This role plays an integral role in the day-to-day operation of the company’s finance department. Our General Accounts are involved with all aspects of accounting including cash management, bank reconciliations, fixed asset accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, month‑end close, internal reporting and year‑end audits. Supporting our team is also crucial and using your analytical skills to provide ad‑hoc financial analysis, support the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting process. We’ve got so much more we want to tell you, so here it goes: Role The General Accountant role is responsible for performing daily accounting duties, including monitoring cash balances, posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial analyses. This position owns the monthly close process for assigned areas and prepares internal and external financial reports, as well as other management and analytical reports. The incumbent maintains full ownership of assigned account reconciliations, demonstrating a deep understanding of underlying transactions and the key drivers of period‑over‑period balance changes. Responsibilities also include preparing audit working papers, liaising with external auditors, and contributing to the streamlining of the year‑end audit process. In addition, the General Accountant prepares EFT and wire transfers in strict compliance with electronic payment policies, monitors cash flow, and ensures compliance with bank requirements, including the preparation of weekly cash flow forecasts. Acting as a key finance liaison to club locations, the role supports accurate and timely cash reconciliations and other accounting activities. The position also supports business units by calculating sales bonuses, commissions, and personal trainer compensation, providing timely inputs to the payroll team. The incumbent assists with special projects as assigned and ensures compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and financial policies. Qualifications The ideal candidate will hold a post‑secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or Economics. An accounting designation such as CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA (or an equivalent), or active pursuit of a professional designation, is preferred. The ideal candidate will have 3–5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. They must be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Experience in the retail or fitness industry is considered an asset.
