Role Overview The Senior Electrical, Instrumentation & Control (EIC) Engineer is a senior technical authority within the Owner’s Team, responsible for providing independent oversight of electrical power systems, instrumentation, and control systems across mining projects and operational assets. The role ensures that EIC designs, systems, and equipment delivered by EPCM contractors, integrators, and vendors are safe, compliant, reliable, maintainable, cyber-secure, and aligned with the Owner’s lifecycle, operational, and performance objectives. The position focuses on governance, technical assurance, integration, and value optimization rather than detailed design execution. Role-Specific Accountabilities Provide senior EIC engineering oversight across: Concept, pre-feasibility, and feasibility studies Greenfield and brownfield capital projects Sustaining capital, upgrades, and asset integrity programs Act as the Owner’s technical authority for EIC systems and interfaces Ensure effective integration between electrical power, instrumentation, control, automation, and mechanical systems Electrical Engineering Assurance Review and approve electrical deliverables including: Power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination) HV, MV, and LV distribution designs and single line diagrams Substations, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, and VSDs Earthing, bonding, and lightning protection systems Ensure compliance with: Electrical legislation, safety standards, and codes (AS, IEC, IEEE) Owner electrical standards and asset strategies Provide technical oversight of instrumentation and control systems including: Process instrumentation selection and application (pressure, flow, level, temperature, analytical) Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and functional safety lifecycle (IEC 61508 / 61511) Fieldbus, industrial networks, and communication systems Control philosophies, cause & effect diagrams, and alarm management Ensure control systems are: Fit-for-purpose and operationally robust Maintainable and supportable over the asset life Designed with appropriate redundancy, availability, and cybersecurity controls Owner’s Representative & Governance Act as the technical representative of the Owner in engagements with: EPCM contractors and engineering consultants Equipment suppliers and OEMs Utilities and Network Service Providers Participate in design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP, LOPA, SIL assessments, FATs and SATs Provide ECI input into procurement evaluations, bid assessments and technical clarifications. Manage engineering deviations, waivers and changes on behalf of the Owner. Project & Operational Support Provide EIC input across the full project lifecycle: Business case development and scope definition Detailed engineering, construction, installation and commissioning Operational readiness, handover and performance verification Interface closely with: Operations and maintenance teams Project controls, procurement, and contracts teams Process, mechanical and IT functions Support troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation and control system failures and performance issues. Risk, Safety & Compliance Champion electrical safety, process safety and safety-in-design principles and ensure hazards are identified and mitigated early Identify and mitigate EIC hazards including: Electrical shock and arc flash Control system failure modes and common cause failures Hazardous area and process safety risks Support incident investigations and root cause analyses where EIC engineering input is required Identify opportunities for: Power efficiency and energy management Control system performance, stability and alarm management Standardization of EIC equipment and architectures Capture and apply lessons learned and embed them into standards, specifications and engineering design Support digitization, automation and electrification initiatives. Mentoring & Technical Authority Act as an EIC technical authority within the Owner’s Team Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior EIC engineers Support capability development and knowledge sharing across the organization Promote engineering excellence, accountability, and disciplined design practices Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical or Electronic) Chartered/Professional Engineer status or eligibility (e.g., CPEng, P.Eng) 10+ years of relevant experience in the mining sector Demonstrated experience working on the Owner’s side or in senior roles within EPCM/consultancy environments Strong understanding of electrical power system and I&C disciplines. Formal training or certification in functional safety Experience with major DCS/PLC platforms Exposure to Operational Technology Experience with both open pit and underground mining operations would be advantageous Exposure to mineral processing plants and bulk materials handling systems would be advantageous This posting reflects a new current vacancy and Kinterra’s commitment to a fair and transparent recruitment process.
