Manager – Environmental Services Hydro One is the largest electricity transmission and distribution provider in Ontario, serving nearly 1.5 million customers. Position Overview The Manager, Environmental Services will lead a team of 5–10 environmental professionals to deliver environmental services for large capital transmission projects and programmes across Ontario. The role involves overseeing environmental assessments, permits, approvals, compliance monitoring, and due‑diligence activities while ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in regulatory compliance. The Manager will build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, regulators, agencies, interest groups, contractors and other stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of environmental professionals to deliver high‑quality environmental services. Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to ensure regulatory compliance and staff development. Oversee environmental requirements for capital projects, including robust Class Environmental Assessments, permits, approvals, and monitoring. Support projects through all phases—from planning and mitigation to construction and compliance. Ensure consistency in applying legislation, regulations, and corporate policies. Track deliverables, budgets, and schedules to meet project timelines and financial objectives. Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, regulators, agencies, interest groups, and the public. Represent Hydro One at community meetings, open houses, and regulatory hearings. Monitor and interpret environmental legislation and best practices to identify risks and opportunities. Manage consulting contracts for specialized environmental services. Contribute to policy development, innovation initiatives, and continuous improvement within Environmental Services. Demonstrate visible leadership in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Planning, Forestry, or a related field relevant to the utility sector. Minimum 10 years of business experience in an environmental or utility‑related field, including oversight of environmental, capital project, or operational work. At least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Experience supporting infrastructure design, construction, and operations; electricity industry experience is an asset. Experience collaborating with Indigenous communities is an asset. Selection Criteria Proven leadership skills with the ability to lead a team of professionals and influence across all organizational levels. Sound knowledge of project and program principles, including budgeting, scheduling, consultant oversight, and workflow tracking. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a focus on delivering project requirements aligned with environmental and sustainability standards. Demonstrated ability to plan and execute workflows and programmes impacting multiple lines of business. Technical expertise in environmental permits, approvals, and compliance for utilities or large‑scale infrastructure projects. Solid understanding of environmental legislation, guidelines, and best practices, with experience interacting with regulatory bodies. Strong organisational skills and ability to manage tight deadlines. Experience working in a unionised environment is an asset. Related knowledge in Environmental Management Systems, Public Consultation, Climate Change and Sustainability, Construction Specifications, Contract Administration, and Contaminant Management is considered an asset.
