Job Summary The Health and Safety Officer role is a key core competence, essential for ensuring a pro‑active culture of safety through the development and implementation of industry‑leading best health, safety & environment practices, ensuring the safety of all employees and the public. The role reports to the VP of Risk Management and is located at the Head Office in Etobicoke. Key Responsibilities Represent and work cooperatively with employees, clients, government entities, and subcontractors on health and safety issues. Ensure regulatory compliance on the job site, abiding by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. Audit site safety performance, evaluate implementation, recommend corrective actions, and follow up to ensure implementation. Participate in and advise on investigations determining causes and corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Conduct orientations with new and returning workers. Participate and organize corporate health & safety committee meetings as required. Accompany third‑party inspectors during site reviews. Oversee compliance to issues identified during third‑party inspections. File safety documentation as required. Work with human resources to create and implement new company policies while ensuring existing policies remain relevant. Ensure all safety equipment is in good working order and replace any that is non‑compliant. Complete respirator fit testing for all employees who use respirators. Assist in COR audits as required. Complete site‑specific safety plans. Administration duties as required. Track and review safety paperwork submissions for accuracy and completeness. Perform monthly site inspections. Education and Experience Post‑secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. Minimum 3 years experience in a safety role. Experience in the construction sector preferred. Working knowledge of OSHA and Construction Regulations. Health and Safety Certification or working towards NCSO is an asset. Demonstrated Management Skills Exhibits critical thinking and the ability to mitigate risks. Displays time‑management skills and ability to multi‑task. Training: HSE staff and company employees at all levels. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines. Exhibits attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated Interpersonal (People) Skills Problem solving, critical thinking; able to find solutions to complex issues/challenges and mitigate risks. High level of personal stress tolerance and flexibility; ability to retain focus in a fast‑paced environment and prioritize conflicting demands. Able to effectively communicate using sound judgement.
