Job Description Reporting to the Supervisor, Resource Planning, the Planner I supports all ship new construction programs by developing and calculating production budgets and managing the shipbuilding labor resource plans. The Planner I role is responsible for distributing the contract budget as per the Program/Project Plan, developing project staffing and trades plans by resource type to report and support the short, medium and long‑term requirements. The role is also responsible for creating resource performance metrics, analyzing possible resource gaps. What You’ll Do Support Rolling Wave (Progressive) Planning Process by exporting data from the model and applying productivity norms to re‑distribute budgets for Schedule activities. Calculate production budgets for activities during strategy and capacity plan changes. Analyze complex datasets, and produce simple, straight‑forward management reports. Support development of the methodology to distribute the production labor budget to the Schedule activities to establish a Project Measurement Baseline (PMB). Review Project Schedule to understand the work breakdown structure. Support developing and maintaining time‑phased staffing and trades plan by program and resource type to report and advise the short, medium‑ and long‑term requirements. Work with the Finance team to assist the development of business and headcount plans that align to program resourcing requirements. Liaise with Operation Workforce Development and HR team to ensure hiring plans are complete and accurate. Improve, drive and monitor the utilization of metrics for the Shipyard. Assist in the development of Business Intelligence (BI) reporting. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Business, or Data Analytics, or Technical Certification in Trades. Meet requirements of Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and Canadian Government Security clearance. Up to 2 years of experience in planning and/or production control at a large, heavy industry manufacturing firm, preferably in the shipbuilding industry. Certification by an accredited society in Planning, Production Control and/or Project Management is highly desirable (e.g., PMP, PMI‑SP, AACE‑PSP). Excellent verbal and written communications. Strong experience in rolling wave production hours budget calculations and cost performance index analysis (earned value management) considered an asset. Ability to achieve high performance levels in a complex and fast‑moving environment. Strong attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. Advanced knowledge of Excel and experience in Power BI, MS Office tools (Word/Outlook/PowerPoint). Strong data analysis/m manipulation capabilities; and ability to gather and synthesize data into meaningful metrics for analysis. Good knowledge of program and project management processes coupled with a proven record of successful delivery. Ability to work across diverse personalities and agendas of various seniority levels across organizations to achieve goals. Ability to work well under pressure while being adaptable and open‑minded to change and improvements. Ability to work within a team environment but also independently. The estimated salary for this position is $73,800 – $90,200. In determining the final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
