The Controller should be a highly motivated, dedicated, and driven individual who will aid in preparing financial statements and be responsible for supporting key accounting tasks under the supervision of our Corporate Controller.They will also aid in managing the daily operations of the office space alongside the Market Manager and Corporate Controller.Duties and responsibilitiesThis role works closely with the Controller for The Sarjeant Co. and the Market Manager for Sarjeant Propane Ltd.Assist in overseeing the daily accounting of the business including:General ledger accountingAccounts payable/receivableOversee and manage the daily operations of the office.Oversee administrative staff, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.Oversee maintenance and upkeep of the office space.Prepare asset, liability, and capital account journal entries and associated. reconciliations through compiling, analyzing, and appropriate documentation.Prepare and submit all government remittances according to legislative requirements.Assist in preparation of financial statements and other management reports.Assist in coordinating activities with the annual audit.Assist in coordinating and controlling inventory and associated counts.Enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles.Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.Any other duties or tasks as required .CompensationCompetitive annual salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience.Eligible for paid vacation time.Eligible for Group Benefits plan and Group RRSP plan.Opportunity for a discretionary annual bonus, recognizing both individual contributions and overall company success .QualificationsCompletion of bachelor’s degree in Business/Accounting/Finance (or similar) required.CPA or working towards CPA designation preferred.M&A integration experience an asset.3-5 years of financial and accounting related experience.Previous working experience in manufacturing setting with emphasis on cost accounting principles and practices.Experience with manipulating, analyzing and interpreting large amounts of data.Problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical abilities to improve efficiency.Leadership and interpersonal skills to manage staff and resolve conflicts.Must be able to pass pre-employment testing including drug and alcohol screening and physical.Must possess a valid G class driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle.Reliable commute to or residing in Thunder Bay .Sarjeant Propane is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
