The ministry consists of the Department of Technology and Innovation, as well as its agencies: Alberta Innovates and Alberta Enterprise Corporation. Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer and Assistant Deputy Minister of the Cybersecurity Division, the Executive Director of Cybersecurity Services provides strategic leadership for the Government of Alberta’s (GoA) cybersecurity programs. This role oversees the delivery of comprehensive cybersecurity and cyber threat risk management initiatives, ensuring the protection of Albertans’ data. Working in support of Technology and Innovation, the Executive Director collaborates with Ministries to ensure all digital services meet stringent security and privacy requirements. The program encompasses all aspects of digital security for GoA systems, including policy development, compliance monitoring and reporting, risk and vulnerability management, exposure management, application security, digital service monitoring, and incident response and recovery. The Executive Director delivers shared solutions to address security threats across Ministries and influences decisions that shape security policies and controls for the GoA. This role also shapes a government-wide Cybersecurity Strategy, aligning risk management, security architecture, processes, awareness, and governance with IT and business objectives. The position has significant autonomy to recommend legislation, policy, and strategic directions. Decisions made affect which projects are developed and implemented, as well as IT guidance across the GoA through risk-based recommendations to senior officials. The Executive Director will be responsible for making decisions regarding security policies, directives, controls, and standards that have a government-wide impact, influencing how all Ministries design, implement, and manage their digital services. These decisions set the foundation for consistent security practices, ensure compliance with legislative and privacy requirements, and mitigate risks across diverse systems and platforms. By establishing clear and enforceable standards, this role safeguards sensitive information, strengthens resilience against cyber threats, and promotes a unified approach to cybersecurity across the Government of Alberta. Qualifications As a trusted and influential leader, you bring extensive senior management experience and a proven ability to drive strategic initiatives, policy development, and cross-ministry coordination. You possess comprehensive knowledge of government and ministry strategic and business plans, policy frameworks, and IT governance. Your expertise spans privacy and security legislation, cybersecurity technologies and vendors, application and database security, and information systems auditing. Strong political acumen with proficiency in process improvement, stakeholder management, risk management, and project management principles and methodologies are essential, along with a superior understanding of cyber threats and emerging cybersecurity technologies. A bachelor’s degree or post-secondary diploma in computing science or a related technology field is required, complemented with at least ten years of relevant cybersecurity experience. Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or equivalent are preferred. $5,758.44 - $7,567.65 bi-weekly ($150,295.28 - $197,515.67 annually) Notes Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
