This salaried full-time position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the thrift shop, overseeing the processes from receiving donations to retail sales. The primary focus of the Assistant Manager is supervising staff, ensuring efficient operations and a daily customer centric focus, leading to the achievement of production and sales goals.This leadership role is integrated into all aspects of the shop, providing supervision, coaching, evaluation, support, training and development for staff along with hands-on, side by side support for receiving, sorting, pricing, merchandising, and sales.MCC is a charitable organization that partners with churches and community organizations worldwide to walk with people who are disadvantaged. Ability to learn and adopt new software.Required to work non-standard hours, including evenings and Saturdays.Able to lift 50 lbs. and exert 11 to 25 lbs. of force frequently.Able to spend 6 or more hours of intermittent standing or walking in a standard workday.Able to repeatedly bend or stoop to floor level shelves and able to reach upper shelves with use of a stool or a ladder when necessary.Able to attend meetings at 50 Kent Avenue in Kitchener approximately 4 times per year.PreferredExperience in the second-hand market with an awareness of regulations regarding selling donated goods.Knowledge of sustainability practices and waste reduction.Working knowledge of provincial health and safety legislationKey ResponsibilitiesGeneralOversee daily operations of the shop including opening and closing; supervise cash needs for float, banking and deposits.Ensure customer, donor and volunteer experiences, as well as daily operations, are in line with MCCO Thrift Network guidelines and strategic goals.Provide supervision, coaching, evaluation, support, training, and development for staff, including co-op students and interns.Oversee all processes from receiving donations to selling on the retail floor, ensuring production quotas and sales targets are met and rotation / storage of product is done efficiently and safely.Work with Thrift Team Members to determine what items should / should not be received, keeping control of incoming donations and assessing production volumes as needed.Work with staff and volunteers to assess workroom/retail layout and efficiencies and make improvements as needed.Oversee Point of Sale, tagging, and cash terminals, troubleshooting and documenting issues when necessary.In partnership with the General Manager, develop and monitor shop budgets, tracking key indicators, spending, revenue, trends, etc. and managing sales growth.Host after hours groups and tours along with General Manager and/or Volunteer Coordinator.Provide back-up support for the General Manager, and Team Members in their absence or as needed, including opening, and closing of the Thrift Shop (cash registers, daily reconciliations, etc.).Take responsibility for all shop operations in the absence of the General Manager.Health & SafetyBe proactive in maintaining clean workspaces that meet health & safety standards, in the workroom and on the retail floor.Proactively support staff and volunteers with reminders of proper lifting techniques, and the provision of tools to help with heavy lifting.Ensure the safe daily operation of the shop, including special events.Keep well informed of legislation and regulations relating to safe donations (e.g. Health Canada, municipal and provincial laws relating to waste management and recycling, chemical handling, electronic waste program, etc.) and implement safe systems for handling.Ensure staff comply with the risk management policies and procedures and foster a culture where risks are identified and mitigated.OtherEnsure employees adhere to company policies and legal regulations.Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including assisting with special events and projects as needed.Participate in MCCO orientations, provincial meetings, Peace Conference and Staff Development Days.Participate in a local faith community, being willing to use your personal gifts within this community.Model nonviolent peacemaking through respectful daily interactions with staff and the public.Maintain a high level of integrity, reflecting Christian respect and Christ's unconditional love to those with whom you work, including colleagues, partner agencies, the homeless and the marginalized.Serve as a brand advocate and ambassador for MCC mission and values in every interaction with customers and donors, being proactive in promoting positive public, staff, and volunteer relations.Start Date21 Oct, 2025Salary DetailsBase salary: $59,527.
