Title: East Hub DietitianClassification: Contractor Hours: approximately 7 hours per week depending on the candidate and their circumstances Location: AC East Hub, York University, Toronto Reports to: East Hub Lead & SSSMI Lead OVERVIEW Athletics Canada (AC) is the national sport organization for track and field, cross country, road, mountain, ultra and trail running. Our purpose is to support High Performance (HP) athletics excellence at the world level, engage participation and provide leadership in developmental athletics. AC is a not-for-profit, charitable organization operating under a Board of Directors elected by provincial/territorial members. The East Hub Dietitian is responsible for nutrition support at the East Hub, York University. This will include remote support and may involve travel to training camps and other of which are a key components of the AC High Performance Plan (HPP). General Objective This position falls under one of Athletics Canada’s High Performance Training Hub’s and the primary objective will be to provide sport science, para-medical or medical services as pertains to your job/expertise in the daily training environment (DTE), as well as working with other Sport Science and Sports Medicine (SSSM, aka Integrated Support Team IST) members with the monitoring of athlete health, including injury prevention strategies for all Canadian Athletics Performance Pathway (CAPP) and other identified athletes accessing services at the Hub, remotely and on camps. When required, these services may also be extended to training camps and competitions outside of the DTE. General Responsibilities / Nature of Services to be provided Provide discipline specific IST services to CAPP and identified athletes. Target top CAPP athletes. Participate in regular meetings with Hub IST and coaching staff (as requested); When requested, advise AC’s HP Senior Management Team1 on relevant SSSM topics associated with your discipline (e.g. performance interventions, injuries, classification, TUE applications, supplementation standards etc. etc.); 1 The HP Senior Management Team consists of AC’s High Performance Director, Olympic Head Coach, Para Performance Lead, SSSMI Lead, Hub Lead (East), Hub Lead (West), HP Operations Lead and Athlete Performance Advisors (APA’s) Engage in regular proactive communication with AC’s HP Senior Management Team and other staff such as the Hub Managers, Coaches, and Sport Science/Sport Medicine Leads; Remain current on anti-doping rules and regulations (CCES / WADA); Utilize AC’s Smartabase database for charting notes/record keeping; Remain current on Sports Nutrition Research and development: It is expected that each practitioner/contractor will track their own total time as allocated within this contract and to report total days/weeks on a quarterly basis (when requested). The SSSMI Lead must approve any significant variance from the allocated time in advance, in writing. If required, attend annual the Canadian Senior Track and Field Championships and AC camps (as required according to budget and need) and to participate in meetings/seminars and for athlete follow-up. Specific Responsibilities / Nature of Services to be provided Provide individual (e.g. assessments, monitoring, supplementation plans) and group (e.g. seminars and cooking demonstrations, hydration testing) nutrition consultation and services to identified CAPP athletes as a member of the East Hub High Performance Integrated Support Team (IST) in the daily training environment. To provide nutrition consultation and services remotely to CAPP athletes as identified by APAs and SSSMI Lead. Provide support to coaching staff and athletes in preparation before and during travel and competition (e.g. Reviewing and feedback for hotel menus, ordering supplements for major competitions) Develop, monitor, and evaluate teams and individual nutrition plans and interventions in consultation with other IST members and coaching staff. Support the Performance Objectives of the Athlete and Coach. Maintain records of athletes’ nutrition plans, supplements, and other appropriate measures (blood work, anthropometry, hydration testing) using appropriate methods (e.g. Smartabase) and share details. Remain current on anti-doping rules and regulations (CCES / WADA); provide assistance to AC office staff as needed on TUE applications, medication / supplementation enquires classification, etc. Provide IST outreach support and communication in conjunction With SSSMI manager and APAs for identified CAPP athletes living and training outside of the High-Performance Training Hubs. If required, provide leadership to the greater community (Athletics Canada CAPP athletes outside of Hub) about performance nutrition through possible clinics, information sessions or seminars (1-2 times). If required/requested, attend and provide nutrition consultation services to athletes at 1 High Performance Hub warm weather training camp and 1-2 additional identified camps or competitions in collaboration with IST team. Collaborate and share resources with other members of the AC Nutrition team. Ability to work Independently. Nutrition Qualifications Must have a post-secondary degree in a health science related field and/or nutrition (and/or PhD in Nutrition and/or Sports Nutrition Exercise Physiology field). Is in good standing with their college (E.g. Dietitians of Canada) Must have valid liability insurance. Registered with the College of Ontario Dietitians Has the High-Performance designation of Sports Science Canada or working towards it would be an advantage. ISAK Level 1 anthropometry. The practitioner has experience working with high performance athletes. Track and Field experience would be advantage. Experience with Paralympic Sport would be an asset. Other Qualifications English is required with the ability to communicate effectively in French considered an asset. Working Conditions This position occasionally may require working outside regular hours. The position is based at the AC East Hub, York University, Toronto and can not be performed remotely.
