This position will provide administrative assistance to the Director, including confidential secretarial support such as managing schedules, meetings, arranging travel, establishing and maintaining appropriate files, employee payroll, processing vacation reports, and preparing and processing work orders and requisitions. The Assistant to the Director will also coordinate events and provide human resources, budget, and operations support.The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:Completion of a formal training program in a related field is required.Must have a valid class 5 Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.Minimum of four years directly related experience is required.Experience within a post-secondary institution advancing Indigenous education is required.Experience in coordinating projects and events and working collaboratively with others is required.Previous administrative experience in an academic setting is preferred.Experience in collaborating with Indigenous communities and educational institutions is required.Strong working knowledge of university policies and procedures, understanding the relationship between various units and decision-making bodies is strongly preferred.Accounting, writing, and editorial experience is strongly preferred.Previous experience with Indigenous organization is preferred.An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, colonization, socio-economic issues, and importance of self-determination is required.Strong critical thinking skills required.Proficient in multi-tasking to meet multiple deadlines required.High degree of competency with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, online meeting software, and Excel spreadsheets required.Excellent oral and written communication skills required.Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions required.Superior organizational skills and the ability to anticipate and resolve problems required.Superior ability to prioritize tasks required.Ability to work independently and in a team environment required.Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.Why the University of Manitoba?Along with being one of Manitoba’s top employers, we provide a collaborative and enriching work environment.
