Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Band 7 Senior Mental Health Practitioner with an interest in neurodevelopmental conditions, with a specialist interest in ADHD. This role will play a key part in developing ADHD services, ensuring delivery of high‑quality care. You will use advanced clinical skills to explore and review care for CYP diagnosed with ADHD, work autonomously on routine reviews and physical health monitoring, and manage a shared caseload alongside CAMHS consultant psychiatrists and ANPs. The successful candidate will be forward‑thinking, take on responsibilities supporting current changes, and may have further training opportunities in ADHD, depending on service requirements. Main duties of the job Work as part of the well‑established Calderdale ADHD team comprising CAMHS psychiatrists and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. Hold shared caseload responsibility for children and young people where ADHD treatment has been stabilised. Complete routine ADHD reviews, physical health monitoring and non‑pharmacological, evidence‑based interventions. Offer specialist expertise in neurodevelopmental conditions and mental health, ensuring clear documentation in all appropriate case notes and sharing assessments and information with the individual, family and all relevant professionals. Undertake specialised risk assessments and liaise with primary and secondary care services. Attend team meetings and engage in clinical supervision. Provide expert ADHD specialist practice and demonstrate enhanced competence in complex clinical decision‑making, assessment and management of clinical needs. Work in partnership with children and young people and their families to ensure effectiveness of outcomes. Mentor, supervise and teach qualified and unqualified staff including students. To work autonomously and collaboratively within the MDT, providing consultation and teaching for other agencies/professionals. Key Result Areas CLINICAL Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility in accordance with the Trust policies and procedures. Have highly developed skills in assessing the needs of children and carers based on complex facts and situations, planning interventions, and documenting clearly. Undertake highly specialist initial assessments following serious self‑harm and attempted suicide in line with evidence‑based practice. Undertake highly specialised risk assessments for urgent psychiatric assessments and plan relevant interventions. Implement intensive interventions with young people and their families, including group and individual work and systemic family interventions. Provide therapeutic care to emotionally demanding clients in highly emotive situations. Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with children and carers for high‑complexity cases. Deliver and devise complex packages of care as part of the multidisciplinary team, including individual and family review/follow‑up sessions. Take a lead role in setting guidelines and standards ensuring appropriate discharge from specialist CAMHS. Communicate complex, sensitive information with empathy, protecting confidentiality and respecting consent, especially for children. HUMAN RESOURCES Develop, manage and coordinate supervision systems for the team. Support other team members in managing cases and joint working where appropriate. Manage and coordinate rotas for all disciplines within CAMHS specific to each area of specialism. Support the Clinical Governance Lead and contribute to governance processes such as incident reporting and risk management. Contribute to induction of new starters. Take responsibility for first‑line resolution of complaints in line with Trust policy. Manage budgetary requirements for equipment necessary for clinical interventions. Person Specification Qualifications (Essential) Nursing qualification. Post‑qualification training in an identified portfolio, e.g. LD, LAC, eating disorder. A teaching and assessing qualification. Membership of the professional body – NMC. Qualifications (Desirable) Post‑graduate qualification in mental health (e.g. CBT, Family Therapy, Counselling). Master's level qualification. Formal management/supervisory qualification. Physical Attributes (Essential) Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post with a satisfactory sickness record over the previous two years.
