Mott MacDonald’s Toronto office is seeking a Project Accountant to join our Finance and Accounting team.The role entails supporting the project accounts manager and unit accountant, who is responsible for optimizing financial management at unit level. You will assist the project accounts manager & portfolio managers in evaluating and managing financial performance by monitoring project profitability and producing accurate monthly accounts. You will ensure working capital management focus is robust as well as provide financial information for projects and overheads for both project and divisional management. You will also produce timely billing and investigate project cost and invoicing queries, assist in the maintenance of the timesheet system and facilitate the processing of purchase invoices. You will also be involved in setting up and maintaining budgets where appropriate and assisting with budgeting and forecasting.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce accurate and timely billing and cost control reports for projects.
  • Reviewing actual cost v budget, project improvement/deteriorations and selling rates to ensure data integrity on projects.
  • Review wip, debt and cash collections on projects and provide commentary to senior management.
  • Understanding the requirements of the contracts, gathering supporting documentation, checking the information for accuracy.
  • Working alongside project managers to produce other project accounting data when required.
  • Support subconsultant contract management - process invoices and purchase orders from our multiple subconsultants.
  • Complete financial reconciliations (Connect Business vs Client financial / timesheet system)
  • Lead financial reconciliation process with the client.
  • Support the Client’s financial rate audit process.
  • Support project controls cost management functions as required.
  • Provide additional support with administrative duties as needed.


Candidate Specification :

Mott MacDonald specializes in innovative engineering solutions for various projects in multiple sectors. The ideal candidate for this position will have the following qualifications and skills:

  • Studying towards a finance qualification (CIMA) is preferred.
  • Motivated to a career in accountancy, working with project teams and divisional management.
  • Financially literate, numerically accurate with advanced knowledge of excel.
  • Have suitable experience working in a finance department.
  • Has an excellent aptitude to working with and supporting colleagues – team player with good time management skills.
  • Capable of using financial software
  • Comfortable embracing the full range of duties from data entry / processing through to reporting financial performance to management.
  • Able to communicate well on financial issues, verbally and in writing, to an audience with varying degrees of understanding in such matters.
