Overview of the Role
The Project Accountant encompasses a wide range of responsibilities and tasks related to financial management, reporting and accounting projects within an organization. As Project Accountant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate and compliant accounting records, monitoring all accounting projects while providing essential support through various processes, reconciliations, analysis, and reporting.
About the Role:
- Supporting the Controller and AVP of Finance to review and process documents related to accounting focused projects.
- Advanced proficiency in managing general ledgers, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Extensive experience in project/process for invoicing and payable efficiencies
- In-depth knowledge of best practices in accounting.
- Excellent communication skills toward effective collaboration and client services.
- Preparing financial reports and special projects budgeting as needed
- Assisting in analysis and preparation of annual budgets
- Supporting the Controller to ensure timely and accurate completion of the month-end closing processes and preparation of financial statements.
- Preparing, presenting, and explaining financial information to business units’ owners
- Streamline full-cycle month-end close process, including posting journal entries and reconciling accounts.
- Assist in the process improvement project for overall accounting processes, including but not limited to accounts payable, receivable and accounts reconciliation.
- Participate in all accounting project related tasks, provide support (documentation, reconciliation) ensuring accurate results are obtained while maximizing efficiency and process effectiveness.
- Responsible for producing required monthly management reports and KPIs for the business to be included in the reporting dashboard.
- Assisting with the preparation of annual budget, working collaboratively with the multi-functional team. Tracking budget variances, monitoring expenses, and conducting research and analysis
- Produce monthly variance analysis of actual vs budget for the team. Provide root cause analysis and recommendations to improve profitability and deliver planned targets.
- Investigate, research, and comply with various monthly HST/PST/GST/QST reporting.
- Assist with internal and external year end reporting, provide external accountants with supporting documentation to ensure timely completion of the corporate tax returns.
- Support the Controller and AVP Finance with the development, implementation and continuous improvement of company policies, procedures, and growth.
- Support and assist with ad-hoc requests and projects as needed
About You
- Strong people skills with proven ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability in written and verbal reports, presentations, and meeting facilitation.
- Responsiveness with ability to anticipate needs and commit to respond in agreed time frames.
- Innovator with proven ability to identify, evaluate and develop new ideas and support with results.
- Deliver on commitments with the ability to set clear objectives and deliverable goals.
- Problem Solving with the ability to identify problems and propose solutions.
- Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience.
- University degree and actively pursuing a CPA designation.
- Working with large amounts of data is an asset.
