Job Profile The City of Cambridge Summer Camps offer an exciting opportunity to lead and inspire volunteers while creating a positive and rewarding experience for children and youth. As a Camp Volunteer Supervisor, you will play a key role in supporting our camp programs and ensuring volunteers feel engaged, prepared, and valued. At City of Cambridge Camps, you will have the opportunity to be a part of exciting theme weeks and specialty camps including archery, skating, hockey, dance, swimming, gaming, robotics, outdoor education and so much more Working for the City means you will make a difference in children’s lives and create lasting memories with campers that will positively impact their lives in the years to come. What you will be doing Creating fun and exciting Training and special events, for volunteers as well as participants in the Leader in training weekly camp in cooperation with the Recreation Coordinator Provide an inclusive camp experience which may include working with participants with different needs (i.e. youth with disabilities, youth with behavior challenges). Supervises daily volunteers; provides direction and ongoing coaching to enhance volunteers program knowledge, teaching techniques and program planning skills. Effectively and promptly communicate with the Recreation Coordinator with regard to all aspects related to facilities, staffing, participants, equipment, supplies, or anything that would impact the quality and safe delivery of day-to-day operations. Inform the Recreation Coordinator on a daily basis of customer feedback, staff performance, and facility and program items. Immediately and effectively respond to program and staff concerns in regard to volunteers. Act as a knowledgeable resource to parents, participants, volunteers, and leaders. Providing administrative support to the Recreation Coordinator as required Liaising with Aquatics Staff regarding swim programming, and acting as a swim buddy in the water during camp swims as required Assists in covering in program as camp leader and inclusion support as required Scheduling volunteers at all sites and doing orientations of each site to volunteers Adhering to all established departmental safety standards and practices. Adheres to medication policy including administering and documentation of medication. Maintaining a complete understanding of our standard operating procedures, and supporting the Camp Coordinator in applying the established rules and guidelines that oversee the safety and conduct of campers Provide the Recreation Coordinator with end-of-season administrative responsibilities as needed (program summary and recommendation, inventories.) Aid with preparation and administering staff evaluation as required. Complete attendance and marking sheets for courses. Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of July & August camp programs, to a maximum of 44 hours. Hours vary based on program registration numbers Attendance at all mandatory paid trainings, that occur during evenings and weekends throughout May and June, is a condition of employment Attendance at all mandatory paid bi-weekly staff meetings that occur outside of camp hours Education Currently enrolled in Recreation and Leisure, Child & Youth, Early Childhood Educator program or similar, or combination of education and experience. Behaviour Management Systems and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is considered an asset. Experience and Knowledge Minimum 2-3 years camp related experience Knowledge of program planning including crafts, games, sports, music, and specialty themed programming Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, time-management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills Ability to plan, organize and lead, coach, and motivate staff in a team environment Leadership skills and abilities to provide and promote a positive team culture We are looking for these certificates Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED High Five - Principles of Healthy Child Development High Five Quest 2 (or willingness to obtain as a condition of offer) Safeguard Training (or willingness to obtain as a condition of offer) We will ask you for these items if you are hired Current and valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position. Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications. High Five-PHCD Certificate & Standard First Aid, CPR C AED Certificate Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness Training Certificate from the Ministry of Labour Valid G2 or G class driver's license. Rate of pay The hourly rate of pay for this position is $23.12. Location of position Dickson Arena W.G. Johnson Centre Preston Memorial Arena Fountain Street Soccer Complex Cambridge Sports Park Cambridge Centre for the Arts Hours of work May 1 – September 4, 2026. Up to 40 hours per week *hours dependent on weekly registrations at location* Mandatory training between May 1 – June 26 Camp starts on Monday June 29 and ends on Friday September 4 Camp does not run on July 1 (Canada Day) or August 3 (Civic Holiday) Mandatory paid training dates/sessions will occur in May/June and mandatory weekly evening staff meetings in July and August, as scheduled by the Recreation Coordinator. Please note that training dates are subject to change. Per hiring criteria, employees are expected to be available for the entire summer program period (June 29 – September 4).
