About the Role: Velma’s House is a low-barrier, Indigenous-led safe space designed to support women and gender-diverse individuals who are unsheltered, experiencing sexual exploitation, or facing gender-based violence. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Coordinator who will play a critical role in ensuring the well‑being of both staff and participants. You will lead staff training, professional development, and wellness initiatives while maintaining a strong presence on the floor to provide support where needed. Your work will be centered on fostering a culturally safe, trauma‑informed, and inclusive environment that prioritizes wellness. What You’ll Be Doing: Leading staff training, professional development, and wellness initiatives Maintaining a strong presence on the floor to provide direct support and crisis intervention Developing and implementing staff wellness programs, including self‑care strategies, mental health resources, and team‑building activities Conducting regular one‑on‑one check‑ins with staff to integrate capacity‑building goals and feedback alongside accessing wellness resources Coordinating culturally safe programming that integrates Indigenous healing practices and harm reduction principles Overseeing and initiating program scheduling, ensuring activities focus on health, wellness, and cultural engagement Collaborating with leadership on hiring, orientation, and training of new staff Recognizing and celebrating staff contributions through appreciation programs Ensuring access to wellness resources, including counselling, cultural supports, and peer mentorship programs Manage the inventory of essential supplies like hygiene products, harm reduction kits, and naloxone Take part in an on‑call rotation, providing leadership and crisis management during off‑hours when needed, ensuring 24/7 coverage and continuity of care You Have: 3-5 years in a supervisory role within social services, shelters, or crisis intervention settings Strong understanding of harm reduction, trauma‑informed care, and crisis intervention Experience working with Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous traditions and healing practices Certifications in First Aid, Crisis Management, and Opioid Reversal Training required Proven leadership and team management skills, with experience in high‑pressure environments Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is required Satisfactory completion of recent (as of the last 6 months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search; Child Abuse Registry Check; Adult Abuse Registry Check We are Proud to Offer: Comprehensive and Immediate Benefits including Health and Dental Long‑Term Disability & Life Insurance Employer Contributed RRSP; up to 5% match Employee and Family Assistance Program with Consult + and Telus Health Cultural Ways of Being; Mino Pimatisiwin Sexual Wellness Lodge, Knowledge Keepers, Kookums, Skaabes, medicine picking, sweats, ceremony, smudging on‑site 12 Wellness Days per year, in addition to Vacation Days Work‑life balance and casual dress Training and Development opportunities Free on‑site parking Employee appreciation and wellness events facilitated by our Social Planning Committee To Apply: Candidates must be able to provide a recent (within six months) Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector, and Child Abuse Registry Check prior to starting in the position.
