Assistant Superintendent Location: Surrey, British Columbia, Canada Salary: CA$32.00–CA$42.00 Employment type: Full‑time Seniority level: Entry level Responsibilities Working with the superintendent to ensure the implementation of FMI’s safety program and monitor the safety performance of the site team and subcontractor record‑keeping requirements. Lead project foreman meetings: inspire and motivate the site team and subcontractors to perform at their best. Monitor and maintain a high quality of workmanship and accountability of subcontractors. Assist superintendent to manage and track budget and cost; review the budget and the underlying estimate to understand the project. Review documents and drawings accuracy; review and enforce subtrade contracts and identify discrepancies in scopes of work, including understanding risk and risk mitigation plans. Monitoring a project schedule using standard scheduling programs is preferred. Monitor company equipment and supplies to ensure the needed equipment is where it’s required. Consistently collaborating with the superintendent, project manager, and project team. Advise the site superintendent or project manager of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc. Contributing to the development and implementation of the Project Execution Plan. Monitoring and executing the project construction plan and schedule. Maintaining project administration correspondence, and complying with documentation requirements. Other duties as required. Job Skills & Qualifications Journeyman certificate or postsecondary diploma/engineering degree in a related discipline. Minimum of 2 years of experience as a field engineer/field coordinator position or lead hand/foreman role preferred. Strong leadership and problem‑solving skills. Demonstrated competence in the areas of safety, people management, project execution, cost control, quality, and administration. Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances, legislation, and building codes. Proactive problem‑solver that can manage a difficult situation. Knowledge of Rough Carpentry and Concrete self‑perform work. Self‑motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask. Advanced verbal and written communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships. Knowledge of the construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, and methods and procedures. Understanding of project schedules and scheduling software. Ability to interpret cost reports. Ability to coordinate multiple scopes of a construction project, including scheduling, monitoring, and coordinating trade contractors. Understanding of material, labor, and equipment takeoffs. Understanding of contract language with the ability to identify and mitigate risks, and identify and leverage opportunities. Knowledge of safety and environmental principles/procedures/legislation. Ability to lead and run effective site meetings with the client, consultants, trades, and internal employees. Demonstrated conflict‑resolution skills, problem‑solving abilities, and professional judgment. Working knowledge of and/or ability to learn Microsoft Office. Availability to work after‑hours shift.
