Position Overview Position: Director, Health, Wellness & Safety Organisation: Ottawa Police Service Competition Number: 20054 Closing Date: 06/01/2026 23:59 hrs Work Location: 19 Fairmont Ave, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Salary: $180,385.66 – $191,260.16 annually (2025 rates of pay) Effective Date: November 25, 2025 Supervisor: Chief Human Resources Officer Seniority Level: Director Employment Type: Full-time Responsibilities Drive long‑term organisational strategies that foster resilience, reduce stigma and embed health, safety and wellness into OPS culture. Ensure Health, Safety and Wellness Section priorities are aligned with corporate initiatives. Provide overall direction and management of the Health, Safety and Wellness Section, overseeing disability claims management and supporting members’ return to work. Represent OPS as a thought leader in health, safety and wellness at provincial and national levels. Monitor and lead the continuous evaluation and improvement of the organisation’s Health, Safety and Wellness Strategy. Design programme strategies that align with the OPS Board strategy and the DRIVE2 Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan. Translate corporate goals into actionable programmes and measurable outcomes for the section. Champion initiatives that normalise mental health conversations, reduce stigma and build a resilient workforce. Design and maintain forward‑thinking policies and protocols reflecting emerging trends and best practices in police health, safety and wellness. Oversee strategic reporting to the Police Services Board and Executive Command, ensuring transparency and accountability. Build strategic partnerships internally and externally to advance OPS’s health, safety and wellness agenda and influence broader industry standards. Direct fiscal planning and resource allocation to ensure sustainability and efficiency of programmes. Provide strategic advice to support negotiated agreements that prioritise member health and safety. Co‑ordinate briefing sessions with CHRO and Executive Command on emerging issues. Direct and coach staff, providing performance feedback and conducting annual reviews to promote professional development. Monitor and adjust human and financial resource needs of the section as required. Administer financial monitoring, overtime tracking and reporting in accordance with the Overtime Management Policy and Financial Accountability Procedures Manual. Qualifications Four‑year university degree in Business, Human Resources, Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Public Administration or a relevant field. Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience, including: Five (5) years of supervisory experience. Experience developing, implementing, evaluating and reporting on HR / Health, Safety / Wellness programmes. Experience collaborating with external agencies, partners and various levels of government. Policy and process development and strategic programme implementation. Preparation of professional reports for senior management or boards. Fluency in English (oral, reading, writing). Working Conditions Standard office environment with minimal adverse conditions. Regular travel (several times per week) between OPS locations for meetings and job duties. Desired Qualifications Fluency in French or other languages. Knowledge of the OPS Business Plan. Comprehensive understanding of organisational behaviour, interpersonal dynamics and the legislative and governance context of police services.
