Your Opportunity The Sturgeon Community Hospital is looking to fill a Medical Laboratory Assistant I role where you, as the successful candidate, will have the opportunity to work both independently and as a member of our team where you are responsible for performing all aspects within the scope of practice of an MLA I. With a customer service focused approach, you build productive and respectful customer relations and take responsibility for customer satisfaction while completing reception duties. You will be responsible for collecting specimens from a wide range of patients using your macro and micro phlebotomy techniques, urinalysis, pregnancy and occult blood testing. Your strong attention to detail and time management skills will flourish as you receive and sort specimens into the lab and prepare them for transport as well as ensuring quality control and maintenance of lab equipment. You have an ability to encourage others and build positive, respectful and collaborative working relationships while assisting in the orientation and training of new staff, coworkers and external clients. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results. Classification and Details Classification: Laboratory Assistant I Union: HSAA FAC PROF/TECH Unit and Program: Laboratory Primary Location: Sturgeon Community Hospital Location Details: As Per Location Multi-Site: Not Applicable FTE: 0.60 Posting End Date: 17-NOV-2025 Employee Class: Regular Part Time Date Available: 01-DEC-2025 Hours per Shift: 7.75 Length of Shift in weeks: 2 Shifts per cycle: 6 Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends Days Off: As Per Rotation Minimum Salary: $23.72 Maximum Salary: $29.56 Vehicle Requirement: Not Applicable Required Qualifications Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent. Additional Required Qualifications Completion of an accredited urinalysis course, including theory and practical. Phlebotomy experience within the last 2 years.
