The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030. This project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction. Project Overview • A six‑kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River). • Stations: One above‑ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station; two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations; four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown). Job Description We are seeking a highly motivated and detail‑oriented SEM Coordinator Co‑op to join the Ontario Transit Group (OTG) project. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in tunneling and underground construction while supporting the Shift Engineer. The position involves monitoring daily site activities, ensuring the safety and quality of excavation and lining operations, and gaining firsthand exposure to large‑scale cavern and tunnel construction. Responsibilities Assist the Shift Engineer in overseeing daily tunneling and cavern excavation activities. Conduct regular inspections in the 150‑meter‑long, 23‑meter‑wide caverns, checking structural stability, shotcrete application, and other lining works. Prepare daily progress reports and highlight challenges. Assist in ensuring quality control during excavation and lining operations. Participate in safety checks and briefings, assisting in risk assessments in confined spaces. Track materials and equipment usage. Coordinate with the Shift Engineer to ensure timely availability of resources. Prepare documentation for daily shift handovers. Contribute to daily excavation plans. Support the Shift Engineer in identifying and addressing technical challenges. Contribute to continuous improvement reports and suggestions. Act as a point of contact for site workers within the tunnel environment. Attend shift handover meetings. Qualifications Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mining engineering, or related field. Basic understanding of tunneling and underground construction principles. Ability to work under pressure in physically demanding conditions. Proficiency in MS Office Suite; familiarity with AutoCAD and other relevant software is a plus. Detail‑oriented with commitment to safety and quality standards. Familiarity with Ontario and Federal environmental regulations. Strong analytical skills and problem‑solving mindset. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and in a team. Valid G driver’s license with clean driving record. Willingness and ability to work outdoors.
