Food Safety & Quality Manager – Milton, Ontario The Food Safety & Quality Manager is the champion of problem solving, testing, and process improvement to ensure the company's quality and food safety standards meet GFSI standards of excellence. This cross‑functional role leads the food safety & quality team, engages with operations, maintenance, supply chain, R&D, and sanitation, and ensures all programs (HACCP, GMP, SSOP, SOPs, etc.) are maintained and checks are conducted as required. Essential Functions: Support, mentor, and lead the Food Safety & Quality team to ensure executional capability and support on each shift. Develop, implement, maintain, and reassess food safety & quality management systems ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with company objectives and product specifications. Oversee daily operations and schedule of the department to meet regulatory, GFSI and customer expectations. Identify, develop, and manage quality objectives/KPI’s to drive continuous improvement. Develop methods for accurate, reliable, and efficient quality testing within company standards. Oversee departmental resources, budget and staff, ensuring budgetary compliance. Lead staff development, performance management, training and orientation of new staff. Promote and enforce company health and safety policies. Reassess current programs annually and identify opportunities for improvement. Lead the Customer Complaint Investigation Program. Maintain monthly trends and provide updates to senior management. Perform annual risk assessments as required by GFSI. Lead mock recall and actual recall activities. Stay current with regulatory changes, update the team and lead implementation. Prepare for and lead third‑party audits, second‑party audits and regulatory inspections. Ensure proper follow‑ups of deviations and identify root causes to prevent recurrence. Support the FSQA Director on projects, customer requirements and regulatory initiatives. Conduct timely and constructive performance evaluations. Handle discipline and termination in accordance with company policy. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Qualifications: Five to seven years of food safety and quality experience in food service, manufacturing or distribution, including five years of progressive leadership. Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology or related scientific fields. HACCP and/or FDA Preventive Control Qualified Individual certification. SQF and/or BRC Practitioner certification. Knowledge of government regulations (US: USDA, FDA; Canada: CFIA, Health Canada). Detail‑oriented, with strong project management and organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication. Strong interpersonal, coaching and mentoring skills; ability to work independently and in a team.
