Tembo Financial is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team as a Mortgage Underwriter and Administrator. In this role, you will play a critical part in assessing mortgage applications, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines, and supporting the administrative aspects of mortgage processing and administration. Key Responsibilities:
Mortgage Underwriting:
- Evaluate mortgage applications to determine eligibility, creditworthiness, and risk assessment.
- Analyze financial documents, including income statements, tax returns, and credit reports.
- Assess property valuations and appraisals to ensure compliance with lending guidelines.
- Make informed decisions regarding loan approval or denial based on established criteria.
Risk Assessment:
- Identify potential risks associated with mortgage applications and propose mitigation strategies.
- Stay updated on industry regulations and guidelines to ensure compliance with lending and underwriting standards.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all mortgage applications, decisions, and related documents.
- Prepare and review loan documents, ensuring they are complete and error-free.
- Coordinate with legal and compliance departments to ensure all required documents are in order.
Client Interaction:
- Communicate with clients and mortgage brokers to clarify and obtain necessary information.
- Provide clear and timely updates on the status of mortgage applications.
Administrative Support:
- Assist in the overall administration of mortgage files, including but not limited to data entry, filing, payments, and document management.
- Managing existing client's files, managing payments, payouts, interest rate increases or any other changes that were made to the client's portfolio during the life of the loan.
- Help streamline and improve internal processes related to mortgage underwriting and administration.
- Working with the company databases, portals, systems. Keep all the files up to date and make necessary changes when required.
- Handle general office administrative tasks, including but not limited to data entry, document management, invoice processing etc.
- Provide administrative support to various teams within the organization.
- Assist with client communications and inbound inquiries.
- Assist with preparing company reports for management.
Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other team members and lawyers to facilitate efficient loan processing, administrating and closing.
- Providing additional support to the underwriting and administration team wherever necessary
Compliance and Quality Control:
- Ensure that all mortgage underwriting activities adhere to regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Participate in quality control and audit processes to maintain high-quality standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree/College Diploma in finance, business, or a related field preferred.
- Ontario Mortgage Agent License
- Prior experience in mortgage underwriting and administration is required.
- Strong knowledge of Private Mortgage Lending.
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in the following software:
- Mortgage Automator
- Microsoft Excel
