Our client is currently looking for a Senior Tax Specialist to join their growing team. This role entails leading year-end tax engagements, handling compilation tasks, and providing expert guidance on partnership and trust returns. With opportunities for mentorship and staying updated on tax laws, this position offers a dynamic and rewarding environment for motivated tax professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for year-end tax engagements for small businesses.
  • Handle compilation engagements with precision and attention to detail.
  • Work closely with subcontracted bookkeepers to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and file partnership returns (T2s), trust returns (T3s), and other relevant tax documents.
  • Navigate complex tax issues, including capital gains and losses, and provide expert guidance on tax planning strategies.
  • Assist clients with understanding their investment portfolios and optimize tax implications.
  • Collaborate with the team to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and provide proactive guidance to clients.
  • Provide mentorship and support to junior team members, fostering their professional development and growth within the firm.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax accounting
  • Proficiency in handling year-end tax engagements for small businesses.
  • Strong understanding of partnership and trust tax returns (T2s and T3s).
  • Familiarity with calculating capital gains and losses.
  • Experience working with investment-related tax matters is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • CPA designation or working towards CPA certification is an asset.
