This position facilitates risk reduction through leadership in hazard identification, training, emergency preparedness, and compliance with Ontario’s mining regulations. The Safety Advisor plays a critical role in ensuring high safety performance and continuous improvement across the operation.ResponsibilitiesConduct site inspections and audits to ensure regulatory compliance and identify unsafe conditions or behaviors and make recommendations to reduce exposureCoordinate safety-related programs and support hazard reduction initiativesMonitor and improve the effectiveness of the Internal Responsibility System (IRS)Support incident investigationsReview and improve hazard mitigation for high-risk activitiesSupport risk assessments for non-routine or high-risk work activitiesProvide regular safety performance updates and recommend corrective actions to leadersAct as a technical resource for health and safety matters for all employees and the JHSCLiaise with industry partners, safety networks (e.g., WSN), and regulators to stay informed on evolving safety standardsSupport development and review safe work proceduresContractor and Change ManagementSupport contractor safety orientation, oversight, and performance monitoring to ensure safety standards are metParticipate in Management of Change (MOC) reviews to assess safety impacts of equipment, process, or staffing changesAssist in safety-by-design processes for infrastructure and operational changesTraining and CompetencyPromote education and understanding of the IRS and site-specific safety proceduresCollaborate with the Training Specialist and/or Field Trainer to ensure training programs are compliant, effective and job-relevantValidate training records and certifications to ensure legal and operational readinessObserve job tasks to assess and support worker competency developmentProvide field-based coaching, mentoring, and feedback on safe work practicesEmergency PreparednessSupport the development and implementation of department emergency proceduresEnsure an adequately trained compliment of Underground Mine Rescue or Emergency Response personnelPromote First Aid TrainingReview and update the emergency preparedness program as necessaryData, Reporting and CommunicationDevelop and distributed safety performance reports using both leading and lagging indicatorsSupport the implementation and use of digital safety tools (eg, inspection apps, dashboards)Communicate safety messages across shifts and departments in a clear and engaging mannerParticipate in safety meetings, pre-start meetings and leadership tours to promote visibilityTraining and EducationMinimum Grade 12 education; post-secondary diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or related field preferredValid Ontario G driver’s licenseMinimum 5 years of mining (surface or mill) experienceMinimum 5 years of Occupational Health & Safety experience in mining or heavy industryMinimum 3 years in a leadership, advisory, or training capacityAccreditation in the Supervisory Common CoreKnowledge of Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulation 854 for Mines and Mining PlantsFamiliarity with WHMIS, mine rescue, industrial hygiene, and safety auditingExperience working with training management systems and safety analytics toolsStrong planning, documentation, and follow-up skillsWorking ConditionsField-based role with frequent presence inmillMust be capable of conducting inspections in physically demanding settingsParticipation in emergency response activities and safety drills as requiredDeadline to ApplyJanuary 30, 2026Compensation and BenefitsCompetitive total compensation package including:Health, Dental, Life, AD&D, Disability, Healthcare and Wellness Spending Accounts, Virtual Care and Employee and Family Assistance Program;Company contributions and matching into a Defined Contribution Pension Plan; andAnnual total compensation of CAD$102,221to CAD$126, 273Additional InformationThis posting is for an existing vacancy at Discovery Silver.We thank all candidates in advance.
