Qualifications/Requirements A condition of employment as an EA/CYW with the Waterloo Region District School Board requires that one must pass a Physical Demands test. All job offers will be conditional on the candidate passing all components of this test. This applies to any EA/CYW that does not already have Permanent/LTO level D hours. Educational Assistant Qualifications: Certified Teachers Educational Assistant Diploma or Educational Support Diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution Developmental Service Worker (DSW) from an accredited post-secondary institution Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from an accredited post-secondary institution Social Services Diploma (SSW) from an accredited post-secondary institution Alternative EA Qualifications with Experience: Post-secondary degree in Sociology from an accredited post-secondary institution AND a MINIMUM of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special needs children. In lieu of relevant related work experience, the Board may consider significant relevant volunteer experience Minimum six (6) month diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution in a child-related discipline AND a MINIMUM of one (1) year (1,224) hours of related work experience preferably directly supporting special needs children. Screening and Compliance Under the staff screening and police record checks requirements; Employees (DECEs, EAs, CYWs) working in licensed child care programs are required to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check issued by a Police Service on or before every fifth anniversary after the date of the most recent vulnerable sector check. Employees are also required to complete an annual offence declaration (annually recorded through the WRDSB staff portal). Educators working in Before and After School Programs must complete a request for VSC through their local police service and submit the original electronic copy for review. Employees must have a valid first aid and CPR certificate or be registered to update training within the year.
