The Camp Counsellor “Counsellor” – Inclusion is responsible to assist in the planning, delivery and supervision of the Camp programs with a focus on participants with disabilities or behavioural considerations; ensuring compliance with HIGH FIVE® standards, the Health and Safety Regulations; and Municipal Policies and Procedures. Benefits and Perks Optional OMERS Pension Plan from the date of hire Work‑life Balance Initiatives Wellness, Social and Staff Ambassador Committees Employee and Family Assistance Plan Perks and Savings Partnerships Compensation and Work Term $17.85 to $19.34 per hour June to August Qualifications Minimal of 18 years of age required Minimal High school diploma Standard First Aid, CPR “C” with AED or willing to obtain Experience working with children and youth with disabilities and behavioural considerations HIGH FIVE ®: Principles of Healthy Child Development, Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) or willing to obtain Valid and satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check Able to commit to the full term of employment and be available Monday to Friday From 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m Mandatory staff training will take place on evenings and weekends prior to the start of summer camp Responsibilities Provide 1:1,1:2 or small group support to participants who benefit from additional support, helping them thrive in a fun and inclusive environment which may be outside of the camp setting In cooperation with the Inclusion Team Lead, Senior Team Lead, Recreation Coordinator and Supervisor Recreation & Culture provide input on development and delivery of programs (relating to participants with disabilities or behaviour considerations) Interact with participants in a positive and professional manner in the delivery of the program; incorporate the principles of HIGH FIVE ® regarding healthy child development and be aware of and work with individuals with disabilities and behaviour considerations Role model enthusiasm and active supervision as well as creating an inclusive environment for all campers, staff and volunteers Interact with the Camp participants in a positive and professional manner in the delivery of the program; incorporate the principles of HIGH FIVE ® regarding healthy child development Utilize individualized tools and management strategies for children with physical orintellectual disabilities including those who are non-verbal and have other identified needs Provide assistance to and interact with participants ensuring safety, integration and participation of all children Provide minimal assistance to participants with toileting or changing Provide safe supportive behaviour strategies that may include physical interventions and containment as outlined in Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training Comply with the Child Guidance and Child Abuse Policies as outlined at staff training Minimize inappropriate behaviour using learned techniques and acquired skills Ability to swim and assist campers in the water is required Respond to first aid situations and document incidents Advise the Recreation Coordinator of any problems related to equipment, programs or public inquiries and shall report any unacceptable behaviour to the Recreation Program Coordinator and/or Inclusion Team Lead or Senior Team Lead Adhere to high standards of ethical behaviour and demonstrate his/her understanding that his/her personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality Perform other duties as assigned by the Recreation Program Coordinator, Supervisor – Recreation and Culture or designate Submit an Application Please submit your cover letter and resume online atwww.porthope.ca/careerson or before Monday March 30, 2026.
