This is a unique role for a professional who thrives on both strategy and execution. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Communications, you will be the operational heart of a dynamic team. Your primary responsibility will be to "run the floor" – guiding the team's daily workflow, ensuring projects are managed brilliantly, and that our communications tactics are implemented on time and to the highest standard. You will also serve as a key strategic advisor to the Director, ready to provide senior counsel and step in when needed. Duties Guide, mentor and support a talented team of communications professionals. Oversee their day‑to‑day workflow, manage project timelines, and ensure clarity on roles and responsibilities to foster a collaborative culture of excellence and ownership. Translate the city’s strategic priorities into actionable communications and engagement plans. Ensure the successful, on‑time delivery of all team projects and tactics. Serve as a senior advisor and main point person to CGS departmental management. Help develop and maintain effective policies and plans that shape the city’s relationship with the public and provide thoughtful recommendations on complex, politically sensitive issues. Oversee the section’s budget and resources, the annual business planning process, media relations, issues management, and the city’s digital presence and visual identity standards. Act as a key source of public information for the City of Greater Sudbury and assume the role of secondary Emergency Information Officer during activation of the City’s Emergency Response Plan. Qualifications Education and Training: University degree in a related discipline from a recognized Canadian‑accredited university. Additional education initiatives to update and expand competencies. Experience: Minimum of four (4) years of directly related and responsible communications experience including two (2) years managing a similar function in a large, unionized, and highly diversified public or private sector organization. OR Education and Training: College diploma in a Communications related discipline from a recognized Canadian‑accredited college. Additional education initiatives to update and expand competencies. Experience: Minimum of six (6) years of directly related and responsible communications experience including two (2) years managing a similar function in a large, unionized, and highly diversified public or private sector organization. Core Competencies Excellent at guiding teams and managing multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment; highly organized, skilled at prioritising and known for ensuring deadlines are met. Capable of seeing the big picture, identifying and managing complex issues, and providing clear, insightful recommendations to senior leaders. Superb writer and editor, able to compose everything from news releases and speeches to internal reports with clarity and impact. Natural ability to balance the needs of diverse stakeholders, manage conflict constructively and help teams reach a consensus. Creates an environment of enthusiasm and motivation, linking the team's work to the broad policy objectives of the organization and fostering a culture of continuous learning. Language Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required. Proficiency in French, both verbal and written, is considered a strong asset. Other Requirements Physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possesses a valid Class "G" driver’s licence, and has an acceptable driving record.
