Quantitative Social Science and GIS (Assistant Professor) The Department of Human Geography at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time, tenure stream appointment in the area of Quantitative Social Science and GIS. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2019. Applicants must have a Ph.D in Geography or a related field at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Candidates must also have a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching and be able to communicate effectively as an undergraduate and graduate teacher. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence as demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier, a statement of teaching philosophy, sample course syllabi, and the teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference. Applications are invited from social scientists with research contributions based on geographic information science and potentially combined with spatial statistics, computational approaches, or other quantitative methods. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in data collection and verification, data analysis, modelling, visualization, and/or computational methods using geographic information. Candidates with research interests across the social sciences are welcome, but candidates must conduct research with an emphasis on urban, health, population, social, or economic geography. We seek candidates who value influencing policy, public opinion, and decision-making processes via outreach and research partnerships. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The candidate’s undergraduate appointment will be at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), a research-intensive institution with an interdisciplinary commitment, a multicultural student body, and a modern campus.
