The District of Saanich is looking for a proven disability management professional with a passion for supporting ill and injured workers and demonstrated commitment to process improvement and supporting the organization’s health and safety culture.The Occupational Health and Safety Division is looking for a disability management professional with occupational health and safety experience who will report to the Manager of Occupational Health and Safety. They will coordinate and implement all elements of the municipal Workplace Injury Management program that respond to workplace incidents and injuries. The position will also support the health and safety program ensuring effective incident investigations. They will have a dual focus of supporting injured or ill workers and preventing incident recurrence. The position coordinates the timely reporting and effective responses to workplace injuries and other incidents, including a safe and early return to work. The Return to Work & OHS Specialist liaises with WorkSafeBC, healthcare providers, workers, managers, supervisors, union representatives, payroll and the HR Specialist, Wellness and Disability Management and HR advisors. An in-depth knowledge of Disability Claims Management principles and practices, the related legislation (e.g. Workers Compensation Act, WorkSafeBC Rehabilitation Services and Claims Manual, human rights and privacy) is essential, as this position coordinates all aspects of claims reporting and management, providing and soliciting expert input and advice, often dealing with labour relations issues, personal and medical information. The position also coordinates incident investigations, relying on a sound knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, practices and requirements (Workers Compensation Act, WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation), particularly in areas of accident investigation, ergonomic assessment, due diligence and internal responsibility systems. This position also provides a broad spectrum of support to the municipality’s injury and illness prevention and Certificate of Recognition (COR) programs.As a qualified candidate, you will have a post-secondary degree in a related field and one of the following designations:Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation orCertified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) orCertified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) orCertified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (CVRP) orReturn to Work Disability Manager (RTWDM) orCanadian Occupational Health Nurse (COHN(C)).Requirements also include: five years of experience in the areas of Disability Management and OHS in a unionized environment; a valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence; and an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.This is an Exempt position with an annual salary range of $98,340 - $115,630 (2024 rates), an excellent benefits package and a generous pension plan.
