Université de Montréal’s School of Optometry opened in 1910 following the enactment of Quebec’s first Optometry Act. It is the only school to offer a French-language professional doctorate in optometry and vision sciences (O.D.). Through its teaching, research and collaborative practices, it is a driving force for change and innovation in optometry and vision sciences, both locally and internationally. It continues to innovate, transmit and mobilize knowledge in support of professionals, researchers and society as a whole. Day-to-day responsibilities Develop an autonomous, innovative, and internationally recognized research program, particularly in one or more of the following areas: o the development of new contact lens designs; o the use of contact lenses for the treatment of various ocular pathologies; o the development of new diagnostic tools and therapies. Supervise undergraduate, master’s, PhD, and postdoctoral students in optometry and vision science; Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, particularly in the fields of contact lenses and vision science; Contribute actively to the visibility of your discipline by presenting at conferences, publishing research, and engaging in various scientific activities; Contribute actively to the functioning of the School and the institution by participating in various committees and working groups; Develop collaborations with other professionals and stakeholders in the field of vision. Qualifications Hold a first professional doctorate in optometry (O.D.) or medicine (M.D.), or an equivalent degree, as well as a PhD in a field relevant to the planned teaching and research activities; Have teaching experience and demonstrate the ability to deliver high-quality university-level instruction in the fields of contact lenses and vision science; Demonstrate potential to supervise graduate students; Have research expertise and a strong record of productivity in a field relevant to the position; Have an established network or demonstrate potential to develop a local, national, and international interprofessional collaboration network within three years of starting the position; Hold a salary award or be willing to apply for a salary support program such as a research scholar award; Be an effective communicator and team player; Have adequate proficiency of the French language or be committed to learning it once hired, through the Université de Montréal’s French language support program, in accordance with the Université de Montréal language policy.
