Summary Statement

This position will largely be focused on providing generalist human capital support across our offices in North America and South Africa – acting as the first point of contact for employees. The Human Capital Generalist will have growing responsibility and ownership of key global human capital programs and projects, including the NMG Consulting Graduate Programme. There will be a large emphasis on recruitment and talent management and growing opportunities for entry-level advisory work and business partnering. You will work closely alongside the global Human Capital team on various projects and strategic initiatives.

To succeed in this role, you will have a broad knowledge of Human Resources best practices as well as a keen eye for detail, a respect for confidentiality and a passion for championing the wellbeing and success of NMG-ers. You will be able to work autonomously and efficiently to ensure the end-to-end running of HR projects and operations and will demonstrate a growth mindset - contributing to the continuous improvement and enhancement of human capital practices within the organisation.

  • Being the first point of contact for HC queries for the North American (Toronto & US) and South African (Johannesburg & Cape Town) offices – demonstrating a strong and applied understanding of company policies & procedures. Working closely with the NMG Benefits Human Capital team in South Africa to understand local legislation and best practice;
  • Supporting the global NMG Consulting Graduate Program alongside the HC Business Partner including recruitment activities, candidate management and ongoing coordination of the program including training and local/international rotations;
  • Supporting end-to-end recruitment and selection processes for the Toronto, Johannesburg and Cape Town offices, including CV screening, interviewing and interview coordination, candidate management, administration of psychometric testing and background checks, liaison with recruitment agencies. Supporting tactical recruitment and HR initiatives across the broader NMG Group and associated companies as required.
  • Supporting the administration and management of Human Capital programs including Employee Recognition & Reward, Employee Benefits, Staff Engagement Surveys, Performance Planning & Reviews, Learning & Development, and Employee Communications;
  • Managing administration of the HR database/system, employee benefits platforms, preparation of HC documentation (employment contractor agreements, variation letters, verifications etc) and maintenance of employee files. Managing overtime reporting for our Canadian-based employees and coordinating work visa applications/renewals and relocations for international hires. Working in regular liaison with other global support functions including Operations, Legal, Finance, Operations, Administration and IT. Competencies, Qualifications & Experience
  • Tertiary qualification in HR or a related discipline. 3+ years of HR experience within a professional/corporate environment. Knowledge of the Consulting / Financial Services industries (preferred, not essential);
  • Experience working in a global business and working remotely with other offices (preferred, not essential);
  • Strong candidate management abilities with high attention to detail and extremely organised and structured approach;
  • Strong communication skills, able to liaise confidently with stakeholders across different roles and cultures. Ability to manage multiple priorities and conflicting deadlines in a matrixed working environment;
  • Highly motivated to learn, and an ability to work independently. Strong Project Management skills and skilled with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
