Position AECOM is seeking a Climate Adaptation Specialist to join our ESG Group within the Environment Business Line in Halifax. In this role, you will focus on climate adaptation and resilience planning, primarily supporting local governments and public agencies, with opportunities to contribute to private-sector projects as well. You will apply climate assessments, rigorous economic and strategic planning techniques, and innovative analytical approaches to develop actionable solutions that advance sustainability in diverse domestic and international contexts. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical and writing skills, a professional consulting background in climate change adaptation, and expertise in sustainability with a focus on climate change. Experience in urban or municipal planning, policy modeling, or policy design is a plus. Responsibilities Develop climate adaptation strategies for municipalities, transportation agencies, and utilities Conduct climate vulnerability and risk assessments for public and private sector clients Design resiliency strategies and plans for cities Perform cost-benefit analyses for climate adaptation initiatives Join AECOM to help communities and organizations plan for a resilient, sustainable future. Qualifications Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Environmental Policy, City and Regional Planning, Sustainability, Geography) 2 years + of experience in climate change adaptation, environmental planning, sustainability, or related fields. Basic understanding of climate change impacts, vulnerability, and adaptation concepts. Strong analytical, research, and writing skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience (even introductory) with GIS or quantitative/statistical tools is an asset. Interest in learning frameworks such as Climate Lens, PIEVC, or related methodologies. Ability to work collaboratively, manage time, and contribute in a deadline-driven environment. Excellent communication and writing Preferred Qualifications 4+ years of experience in climate adaptation, environmental planning, or a related consulting/public-sector role. Hands-on experience supporting climate assessments or adaptation planning. Familiarity with municipal climate policy, sustainability strategies, or funding programs. Experience in related fields such as land-use planning, urban design, or transportation planning. Strong communication skills and comfort working with multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrated interest in climate equity, community resilience, or infrastructure adaptation. Compensation Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is CAD 60,000 to CAD 75,000 per year.
