Overview Placement Counsellor role at Mennonite New Life Centre (MNLC). The Centre provides a variety of settlement services, including information/orientation, language instruction, mental health supports and capacity building workshops, public education and bridging to employment. About The Position With a primary focus on the mental health sector, the Placement Counsellor will work directly with participants in the BREM program to help them explore appropriate career paths within their field, provide guidance and counselling, refer them to appropriate services, support their search for supervised placements, advocate for them throughout the placement as well as coach and mentor participants where and when needed. This role requires a self-driven, creative, independent, and highly organized professional who can build and sustain internal and external stakeholder relationships. This person must also have an in-depth understanding of the Ontario labor market; the talent gaps facing employers and actively seek out placement opportunities that will meet the career aspirations of program participants. Responsibilities Advising and coaching participants in the process of seeking and securing placement positions in mental health by identifying opportunities, matching postings to participant profiles, and teaching basic placement applications and networking skills Facilitate engaging workshops (pre-designed) for a cohort of participants on job search skills such as resume writing, mock interviews, information interviews, workplace culture and networking to help participants find suitable paid positions Bring in-depth related experience and knowledge in the mental health sector, with the support of the Placement Coordinator, Program Manager, and other staff and instructors Coordinate and refer clients to other EO providers for further assistance, following up on outcomes Build partnerships with organizations in Ontario to create placement opportunities for clients by conducting ongoing research and outreach to private practices, community resources and programs; actively recruit organizations and seek out opportunities Play a hands-on role with participants and placement organizations, providing support and monitoring of placements Experience in behavioral-based interviewing, pre-employment testing, and other innovative selection methods is an asset Conduct group and 1-on-1 job coaching sessions to help participants explore realistic career paths in the mental health field Deliver program information sessions Establish and maintain mental health related job postings and networking events to be shared with Alumni Maintain an active caseload in the program database, including file management responsibilities in Apricot and SharePoint Perform and register exit surveys and follow-ups at 3, 6 and 12 months in a timely manner Offer individual support to participants who struggle throughout the program and refer them to appropriate internal and external services Provide reports on outcomes as outlined in the Project Work Plan as it relates to participant goals Support program events, admissions, documentation, and other program-related activities as needed Participate in staff meetings and professional development activities Represent MNLC Bridging programs and MNLC at external workshops and meetings Qualifications A post-secondary education in Psychology, Social Work, Career and Work Counselling, or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience (job development, mental health recruitment, career development, human resources and/or adult learning) 1-3 years of experience in a similar role Demonstrated success coaching participants in the mental health sector towards employment Experience in job search facilitation coordination Experience with successfully matching program participants with service providers and specific needs Thorough knowledge of job search and career development including job application processes, resume writing, networking, labor market trends, and familiarity with social media platforms such as LinkedIn Knowledge of adult learning principles including facilitation, use of digital/social media and online learning concepts Demonstrated experience in case and file management Knowledge and experience working with immigrants, newcomers, internationally educated professionals and diverse populations Excellent presentation and facilitation skills (online facilitation in Zoom/MS Teams and in person) Passion for people, equality, and social justice; empathy, cultural sensitivity, and anti-oppression approach Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently Ability to work virtually and in-person at MNLC locations (currently primarily Finch location twice a week) and some evenings Exceptional computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Client Management Systems, Adobe, and other productivity software Additional Information Seniority level: Mid-Senior level Employment type: Temporary Job function: Other Industries: Non-profit Organizations The Mennonite New Life Center is committed to the values of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
